Romance Suspense

INTO THE FURY is the first book in Kat Martin's newest series. As per usual with Martin, it involves Alpha males, strong ladies who first appear soft, an edge-of- your-seat suspense peppered with sexual interludes between aforementioned dudes and ladies. If you've loved Martin before, you'll love INTO THE FURY too. It ticks all the boxes you expect her to tick - and I say that with respect. I'm not someone who thinks an author being dependable is a bad thing. The plot is interesting: a group of elite models - think Victoria Secret goes on tour - has been getting threatening notes and so the company hires our hero (Ethan) to head up the additions to the security detail. Our heroine (Val) is a stereotype breaker - a newbie to modeling who is only there to pay for veterinary school. She won a contest to be a participant in the show, and is clearly still wrestling with the idea of putting her body to work in this way. Clearly, there are explosions and snipers and intrigue and nasty notes and bad guys and all the other trappings of a romantic suspense novel. People are in peril and the stakes are high - but because it's a romance, you know it's all going to be okay for Ethan and Val. And speaking of Ethan and Val, I particularly love these folks. There was minimal drama between the two of them; they seemed comfortable with each other quickly, but not inappropriately so. Instead, it was the way two adults sometimes just click and can find safety in each other while chaos rages all around. They certainly had some hiccups as they learned each other, but nothing that made me say to the book "oh for crying out loud, someone is trying to kill you, this is not the time!" Martin balances the personal conflicts and story arch with the overall narrative well. INTO THE FURY is recommended for any folks who like romantic suspense (clearly), but also any folks who are considering getting into to the genre. This is a good example of it, and with it being the first in a new series, an excellent opportunity to get into a series at the ground level. Also recommended for anyone who likes to read about people taking control of their own lives, people making their dreams come true and couples finding home in each other.

SUMMARY

A bodyguard, a bounty hunter, a P.I.--the men of Brodie Operations Security Service, Inc. are down for the job. . . Sinners, whores, and sluts beware--your time is at hand: a faceless menace is threatening lingerie models on a cross country tour, and Ethan Brodie is there to defend and protect. Ethan's learned the hard way that beauty is no substitute for character. So even though Valentine Hart is one of the most breathtaking women he's ever seen, he's keeping his hands off and his eyes open. Or that's what he tells himself. Then one of the models is murdered, and the closer Ethan gets to the answers, the closer he finds himself to Valentine--and the hotter the pressure feels. There's more to Val--more to the other girls--than he could have guessed. But one is keeping a secret that could kill them all.
