Women's Fiction Contemporary

Still in the USA Becky Brandon, feeling a tad dejected after her debacle in Tinseltown, our favourite shopaholic has no time to lick her wounds: she is on her way to Las Vegas to find her father and her best friend Suze's husband, who both vanished. With her mum and her friend; Suze, and Becky's forever enemy Alicia Bitch Long-Legs, who is now Suze's bestie, as well as Becky's two year-old daughter in tow, Becky is determined to find out if the men were abducted by a cult, which seems most likely. And while nosing about, the unthinkable happens at a local craft sale: Becky doesn't like buying things anymore...

SHOPAHOLIC TO THE RESCUE picks up precisely where Shopaholic to the Stars ended, and some subtleties may be lost on readers who haven't read the previous book, however there is a very clever recap at the beginning as to what Becky is up to. Much to my surprise, gambling and casinos do not figure prominently in SHOPAHOLIC TO THE RESCUE. Becky also recruits a most unlikely ally in her quest. It is essentially a light mystery, with quite a solid story at that, and it is also about friendship, and personal growth. Becky is up to some zany shenanigans of course, but in a more subdued way than we are used to. Just about every character of the series is featured in SHOPAHOLIC TO THE RESCUE, and quite a bit happens to several of them; in one case, something that is a bit shocking, and it all leads to unexpected—and most satisfying—character development.

As always, there is some of Becky's delightful correspondence, and an amusing wink to Ocean's Eleven. Was there a hint as to the future career of Becky's daughter Minnie? I hope so, because it could mean quite a bit of horsing around for Becky...

SUMMARY

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sophie Kinsella returns with another laugh-out-loud Becky Brandon (née Bloomwood) adventure: a hilarious road trip through the American West to Las Vegas.

Becky is on a major rescue mission! Her father has vanished from Los Angeles on a mysterious quest with her best friend’s husband. Becky’s mum is hysterical; her best friend, Suze, is desperate. Worse, Becky must tolerate an enemy along for the ride, who she’s convinced is up to no good.

Determined to get to the bottom of why her dad has disappeared, help Suze, contain Alicia, and reunite her fractured family, Becky knows she must marshal all her trademark ingenuity. The result: her most outrageous and daring plan yet!

But just when her family needs her more than ever, can Becky pull it off?
