AUTUMN THORNS is the first book featuring the town of
Whisper Hollow, a town where the magical and mystical
guide everything. Kerris Fellwater escaped from Whisper
Hollow fifteen years ago only to find that she has been
called back by duty. Kerris is the fiftieth
generation of spirit shamans and her gift (or curse) is
to ensure that the spirits of the dead remain in their
graves. Kerris has a lot to learn about her gift if she
hopes to stay alive as secrets abound in Whisper Hollow.
I absolutely love the town of Whisper Hollow, although I
can't imagine why anyone non-magical would want to stay
there. Yasmine Galenorn creates such an eerie ambiance
that it's impossible not to believe in the Shadow Man or
any of the other creepy spirits Kerris has to face.
However, it is the mythology Yasmine Galenorn crafts that
truly makes the world of Whisper Hollow stand out. From
the tales of the Morrígan to the secrets of the Hounds,
AUTUMN THORNS is full of mysterious secrets that I can't
wait to see Kerris discover!
It took me a bit longer to warm to Kerris than I would
have liked but her self-assuredness and strength of
character begin to shine through as the story develops. I
think part of my initial issue with her is that she
appears too perfect on the surface, from her physical
appearance to her photographic memory. Fortunately,
Yasmine Galenorn quickly shows that Kerris is so much
more than just a pretty face as I'm cheering for her by
the end, both for her courage and her willingness to
stand up against any faction for what is right.
AUTUMN THORNS is a phenomenal introduction to the
Whisper Hollow series, featuring exceptional world
building, a steamy romance, and magical mysteries waiting
to be unveiled. I look forward to revisiting Whisper
Hollow to see what other secrets lay hidden beneath the
surface. This is the first book I've read by Yasmine
Galenorn but it certainly won't be the last!
In an all-new series, New York Times bestselling author Yasmine Galenorn invites readers to Whisper Hollow, where spirits walk among the living and the lake never gives up her dead…
Fifteen years ago, I ran away from Whisper Hollow, Washington, a small town on Crescent Lake in the Olympic Peninsula. But truth is, if you were born here, you can never really leave. I’m Kerris Fellwater, and when I returned, I inherited my grandmother’s house—and her gift. As a spirit shaman, it’s my responsibility to drive the dead back to their graves, because around Whisper Hollow, people—and secrets—don’t always stay buried.
When I was little, I was told my mother ran off. But now it looks like she was murdered. With the help of my mysterious neighbor Bryan, we begin to unravel the mystery of her disappearance, and in doing so, unearth a dark force seeking to bury Whisper Hollow. Now I must work with the dead, rather than against them, because our enemy will do whatever she can to destroy the town, and she means to start with me.
