WILLOW BROOK ROAD is the latest book in the Chesapeake Shores series where you are reunited with the O'Brien family members. This is a family that is very involved in each other's lives, especially Mick O'Brien. Anytime something happens you can be sure Mick will be front and center, whether you want him to be or not. This particular story is very heartwarming because Mick's oldest grandchild returns home to Chesapeake Shores after having her heart broken by someone she thought she was in love with. All of the family is happy to have Carrie back home, but she's floundering. In addition to Carrie returning home, there is heartbreak for Mack and Susie in their adoption situation. WILLOW BROOK ROAD can be read as a standalone, but reading the other books in the series will give a clearer picture on the family. Chesapeake Shores is a wonderful series about family and the dynamics involved.
Carrie is giving serious thought to what she wants to do with her life. In the process of thinking things through she encounters Sam Winslow, who recently moved to Chesapeake Shores. Sam is a single father after gaining custody of his six-year-old nephew after both his parents are killed. Carrie is not too impressed with Sam when she initially meets him. Once she becomes aware of the circumstances surrounding their first encounter, she changes her viewpoint.
Carrie and Sam both have a lot to learn. She learns to be confident in making a career decision that she believes in and letting her family, especially her Grandpa Mick, see that she knows what she's doing. Sam learns he can be a father to his nephew regardless of how he was brought up and that he can do a great job.
In reading the Chesapeake Shores series, you learn all about Susie and her battle with cancer. So when you see the painful suffering her and Mack go through in trying to have a family your heart bleeds for them. But as always, the O'Brien family rallies around them, providing support.
