PLAYING WITH FIRE is the next book in Hot in Chicago series about a family of foster firefighter siblings. I love this series! Alexandra Dempsey is the only female among these foster siblings as well as the sole female firefighter with Engine Company No. 6. Because she feels like she has to prove that she belongs with Engine No. 6, Alex finds herself front and center in the media's eyes because of some recent antics. Those antics bring her in direct contact with Chicago Mayor Eli Cooper. Alex and Eli are a combustible mix. They push each other's buttons, which brings out all the sexual tension between them. Alex and her brothers may not be blood relatives, but there is no mistaking the love and protection they have and show for each other. Alex is headstrong and sometimes allows her emotions to get the better of her. Eli goes to bat for Alex and saves her job even though she uses every opportunity to make him look bad in the media.
Now the situation has changed when Alex and her unit are called to a fire where she ends up rescuing Eli. During the process of saving Eli, Alex breaks procedure that puts her life at risk. So it looks like Eli ends up saving her. Eli sees an opportunity to boost his political ratings so he makes a deal with Alex. Eli has a secret from his past that he has never shared with anyone that is painful and could possibly derail his political career. Alex will eventually learn that Eli has not been totally honest with her. It's obvious that these two love PLAYING WITH FIRE because of all the sparks shooting off of them. They bring out the best in each other.
The Dempsey siblings have strong personalities that will keep you entertained and waiting to see what the next one will do. These are standalone novels but a great series to read.
