Unspoiled but extremely rich, 15-year-old Sunny Landers shares a dream with her father, Bo, to build a transcontinental railroad across the vast Rockies. Sunny's brothers Stuart and Vince have opposing views. Sunny attends each and every board meeting and knows more about the business than her brothers do and is very business savvy.
In THUNDER ON THE PLAINS, Bo hires a ruggedly handsome half-Cherokee who can communicate with the Indians to guide their wagon train from Omaha to Fort Laramie. The 20-year-old Colt Travis is more experienced and tougher than any other applicants for the job. Protecting them through many perils including saving Sunny's life twice, has drawn the respect of her father for this young man, but not to the extent that he intends to let him become involved with his daughter. If only his daughter felt the same. Stretching over the course of years, the love they feel is denied and tested. Bo dies and Sunny becomes heir to the Landers dynasty and a fierce adversary in a world of men. Through all the years she has only wanted one man that is not to be hers.
I started reading this wonderful book by Rosanne Bittner with no intention of doing it all in one sitting, but that's exactly what happened. I was so spellbound with the excitement and tragedy dealt to both these young people searching for real love, that I couldn't put it down. The tragedy of the Wild West and Indians molds Colt Travis into a man desperate for love, and provides a stimulating and terrific read. Sunny Landers is a strong, warm-hearted woman intent to lead, and one you can't help but fall in love with. THUNDER ON THE PLAINS was truly an inspiring and romantic tale that will take you on a wild and beautiful adventure like no other.
Sunny Landers wants a big life-as big and free as the untamed land that stretches before her. Land she will
help her father conquer to achieve his dream of a transcontinental railroad. She won't let a cold, creaky wagon,
murderous bandits or stampeding buffalo stand in her way. She wants it all-including Colt Travis.
Like the land of his birth, halfโCherokee Colt Travis is wild, hard, and dangerous. He is a drifter, a wilderness
scout with no land and no prospects hired by the Landers family to guide their wagon train. He knows Sunny is
out of his league and her father would never approve, but beneath the endless starlit sky, anything seems
possible...
