Brandon Walker put away a man for killing Amos Warren years ago. Walker is asked to revisit the case when Lassiter, the alleged killer, is refusing a plea deal that would release him from jail. Lassiter insists that he is innocent and even his severely advanced MS isn't enough to admit his guilt.
Lassiter's daughter has brought the case to an organization called The Last Chance. Like Justice For All, it's groups of retired investigators, medical examiners, etc., who set out to solve cold cases.
Walker is reluctant until he sees some of the evidence that Lassiter's daughter has amassed. None of it was available to him through some probable misconduct on the part of the former Sheriff and the former prosecutor.
Brandon sets out to find the truth. He contacts an attorney in Seattle who sets up a phone call with J. P. Beaumont. J. P. is at loose ends. His former unit has been shut down. His wife is out of town and despite his attorney's persistence, he is reluctant to get involved. After talking with Brandon, he agrees to do some investigating.
Ms. Jance writes a compelling story which involves a large number of characters and a conspiracy that has been quietly operating a smuggling ring for a long time. As the story builds, an evil mastermind will be exposed. Skillfully tying in disparate plot lines, DANCE OF THE BONES will keep the reader enthralled.
Years ago,
Amos Warren, a prospector, was gunned down out in the desert
and Sheriff Brandon Walker made the arrest in the case. Now,
the retired Walker is called in when the alleged killer,
John Lassiter, refuses to accept a plea deal that would
release him from prison with time served. Lassiter wants
Brandon and The Last Chance to find Amos's "real" killer and
clear his name.
Sixteen hundred miles to the north in
Seattle, J.P. Beaumont is at loose ends after the Special
Homicide Investigation Team, affectionately known as
S.H.I.T., has been unexpectedly and completely disbanded.
When Brandon discovers that there are links between
Lassiterโs case and an unsolved case in Seattle, he comes to
Beau for help.
Those two cases suddenly become hot
when two young boys from the reservation, one of them with
close ties to the Walker family, go missing. Can two
seasoned cops, working together, decipher the missing pieces
in time to keep them alive?
