Mystery Cozy

Leslee "Nixy" Stanton gets a call from Lilyvale police detective Eric Shoar that will change her life. All kinds of strange things have been going on at her aunt's house and he's been called out there too many times. Nixy is given an ultimatum - either she come out to Lilyvale and take charge or...

Nixy works in an art gallery and is in line for a promotion after the latest art exhibit is done. This couldn't come at a worse time for her. Nixy didn't even know she had an aunt until her mother died. Sherry stepped in and helped her through all of the arrangements and deal with the grief. Now, Sherry needs her so she works flat out to get everything ready and heads to Lilyvale. While she knows her Aunt Sherry has some housemates, she didn't know that a land developer was harassing people and her aunt to sell their property.

Nixy kicks the developer Jill Elsman off the land in the middle of an art fair that the Silver Six are running. Nixy is in awe of some of the work she sees but she can't understand why Sherry is keeping something important from her.

Jill Elsman is found dead and all the attention is focused on Sherry and her five housemates. Nixy will have to expose the real killer while keeping the hunky detective away from the Silver Six.

Ms. Haddock has started a new series with BASKET CASE. I found myself enjoying it immensely. Not only was the relationship between Nixy and Eric entertaining, the secondary characters of the Silver Six really draw the reader into the story as one learns the personalities of the six housemates. I can't wait for the next book.

SUMMARY

First in a crafty new cozy mystery series from national bestselling author Nancy Haddock

There isn’t much crime in Lilyvale, Arkansas, but local authorities have their hands full with Ms. Sherry Mae Stanton Cutler and her housemates—a crafty group of retirees who’ve dubbed themselves the Silver Six. But when Sherry Mae’s niece, Nixy, arrives to keep them in line, Lilyvale also plays host to a killer.

When Leslee Stanton “Nixy” Nix gets the latest call from Lilyvale detective Eric Shoar, she knows it means trouble. There’s been another kitchen explosion at her Aunt Sherry’s farmhouse, and the dreamy-voiced detective has had enough. If Nixy doesn’t check on her aunt in person, the Silver Six could become wards of the court. But the trouble Nixy finds in Lilyvale is not at all what she expects.

The seniors are hosting a folk art festival at the farmhouse, featuring Sherry’s hand-woven baskets, when land developer Jill Elsman arrives to bully Nixy’s aunt into selling the property. When Jill is later found dead in the cemetery, Sherry is suspected of weaving a murder plot, and it’s up to Nixy and the Silver Six to untangle the truth.
