No one was more excited than I was to learn that Lisa Kleypas was going to
go back to her Travises series and write a book for Joe. Kleypas has been
one of my all-time favorite authors for a very long time so I had high
expectations for BROWN-EYED GIRL.
Avery Crosslin spends most of her time making happily ever afters come true
for her clients. Her wedding planning business has taken off but Avery isn't
one to believe that everything is perfect just yet. She works hard and as a
result, she doesn't have much time for romance herself. When Joe Travis
comes walking in, Avery makes the mistake of thinking he is the
photographer and after embarrassing herself, Joe finds something adorable
about her. He wants to take her out but Avery doesn't see how someone like
her can end up with someone like Joe Travis.
Lisa Kleypas pens the most romantic story for Joe and Avery. After they
indulge in a one night stand, their dynamics change a little bit and Kleypas is
now tasked with trying to save this relationship before it even begins. It's a
beautiful story that is eloquently written with more than its fair share of
humorous and charming moments. This is what Kleypas does best and you
can see the level of talent in her writing style and her ability to make her
readers swoon with each hero.
Past characters make a few appearances, namely Joe's brothers and their
wives. There is also quite a bit on Joe's cousin, Ryan, which makes me
wonder if Kleypas has some future plans for him as well. BROWN-EYED
GIRL rekindled my love for this series and made me want to go back and
reread every single book Lisa Kleypas has ever written. If you have yet to
read one of her stories, you're lucky because you can experience them all
now! There's plenty to enjoy and by the end of it all, I'm absolutely positive
you'll have fallen in love with her characters just as much as I have.
Wedding planner Avery Crosslin may be a rising star in Houston society, but she doesn't believe in love-at least not for herself. When she meets wealthy bachelor Joe Travis and mistakes him for a wedding photographer, she has no intention of letting him sweep her off her feet. But Joe is a man who goes after what he wants, and Avery can't resist the temptation of a sexy southern charmer and a hot summer evening. After a one night stand, however, Avery is determined to keep it from happening again. A man like Joe can only mean trouble for a woman like her, and she can't afford distractions. She's been hired to plan the wedding of the year-a make-or- break event. But complications start piling up fast, putting the wedding in jeopardy, especially when shocking secrets of the bride come to light. And as Joe makes it clear that he's not going to give up easily, Avery is forced to confront the insecurities and beliefs that stem from a past she would do anything to forget. The situation reaches a breaking point, and Avery faces the toughest choice of her life. Only by putting her career on the line and risking everything-including her well-guarded heart-will she find out what matters most.
