Where do I start with this review? There is so much
emotion in this book. I knew something I was not going to
like was going to happen in this story, and if you follow
J. R. Ward, you know too. Even with knowing about that I
was excited to start reading this book. THE SHADOWS
brings us one heck of an emotional ride. Love is gained
and lost in the most painful way. It makes many of the
Brotherhood wonder about many things, especially the
brother Rhage.
This book revolves around two brothers and the women
destined for them. Trez and Selena's relationship is not
a conventional love story and happy ending. Love is
strong but does it always win? The answer to this
question is yes and no. In this story you get both sides
of the coin. Only the answers are not the way we want it
to go. Be prepared for some strong pulls on your
heartstrings and make sure to have that box of tissue
nearby. It was nice seeing Selena do the things that she
has always wanted before she could no longer do them. iAm
and maichen also find their way towards a happy ever
after. We also get to see some interesting developments amongst
some of the others in this world. Layla and Xcor, Luchas,
and so many more have things to say and will not be
ignored. This book is an intense read. It will make you
cry and laugh at times. The Brotherhood's camaraderie is
strong and shines through. While parts of
this book are sad it shows readers the friendships
between the Brothers and how strong it is. Life goes on
no matter what happens, good or bad.
This book is a good addition to this series. I enjoyed
watching the brothers Trez and iAm deal with what fate
has thrown at them and how it affects all of the others
in their world. I was quickly lost in their story and did
not want it to end.
SUMMARY
Trez “Latimer” doesn’t really exist. And not just because the identity was created so that a Shadow could function in the underbelly of the human world. Sold by his parents to the Queen of the S’Hsibe as a child, Trez escaped the Territory and has been a pimp and an enforcer in Caldwell, NY for years- all the while on the run from a destiny of sexual servitude. He’s never had anyone he could totally rely on... except for his brother, iAm.
iAm’s sole goal has always been to keep his brother from self-destructing- and he knows he’s failed. It’s not until the Chosen Serena enters Trez’s life that the male begins to turn things around... but by then it’s too late. The pledge to mate the Queen’s daughter comes due and there is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, and no negotiating.
Trapped between his heart and a fate he never volunteered for, Trez must decide whether to endanger himself and others- or forever leave behind the female he’s in love with. But then an unimaginable tragedy strikes and changes everything. Staring out over an emotional abyss, Trez must find a reason to go on or risk losing himself and his soul forever. And iAm, in the name of brotherly love, is faced with making the ultimate sacrifice...
