In THE WARNING, Chloe attempts to track down a stranger -- intent on repaying him -- for his act of kindness toward her and her daughter. During her search, she meets Nadine, who cautions Chloe to stay far, far away from the Good Samaritan. "Give him nothing, tell him nothing, don't trust him."
Will Chloe heed the warning or will she follow her heart? How dangerous could he be? And can she find the answers without putting herself and her daughter in harm's way?
The answers to those questions have made Sophie Hannah my new favorite suspense author! Her short story is the first of her work that I've read, but she left me wanting more of her spiraling and suspenseful tales.
Unlike most stories that have a twist, usually you'll see some portion of it coming. However, THE WARNING takes a turn that leaves you asking, "What the heck just happened?" You will never know whom you can trust after reading this short story.
I love that feeling after finishing a novel; the one that makes you think about the book days after finishing it. Sophie Hannah has a talent for surprises! THE WARNING will leave you speechless. You will never know whom you can trust after reading this short story. Then again, would you take THE WARNING yourself, or follow what you feel?
