Romance Contemporary

YOU REALLY GOT ME is Book one in Erika Kelly's Rock Star romance series. Having jumped into this series with Book two, I was eager to read YOU REALLY GOT ME. I love this book! The characters are three-dimensional and interesting and the romance is smoking hot. Erika Kelly masterfully captures the push and pull that makes a romance really lively and full of longing without seeming tedious. The first part of YOU REALLY GOT ME focuses on how Emmie Valencia and Slater "Jonny" Vaughn meet, and then the second part is all about their struggle to stay together. It really helps that YOU REALLY GOT ME is told from both perspectives.

Slater Vaughn and Emmie Valencia have so much in common -- they both have rocker dads, they both express themselves through the written word, and they are both going through a time of transition when they first meet. They are also both currently in the music business -- although he's a singer/songwriter and she's involved on the business side of things. When circumstances throw them together as housemates, the attraction that sparks between them is fun to watch. I love how they circle each other for the first half of the book with lots of flirting and sexual tension. Things get more intense as they learn more about each other. They like as well as lust after each other. I like both Slater and Emmie and find them sympathetic. Slater Vaughn has the "sexiness mixed with vulnerability" quality that I love. I like that he is so self-aware when it comes to his feelings for Emmie.

The second half of YOU REALLY GOT ME is emotionally intense as Slater and Emmie deal with obstacles to their burgeoning relationship. This part of YOU REALLY GOT ME shows how they are both flawed characters with their own personal issues to overcome. I like the added dynamic of having Emmie's brother being Slater's bandmate and being there for all the drama. Slater slays me with his passion and devotion to Emmie. This suspense over which direction their relationship will take had me captivated and reading right until the very end.

YOU REALLY GOT ME is a sexy start to an addictive series. This is a must-read for contemporary romance fans and readers who like sexy and sensitive rockers. I look forward to the next book by Erika Kelly.

Emmie Valencia has what it takes to be the music industry’s hottest band manager. She just needs to prove it. Determined to discover a killer new band, Emmie is ready to make her move. First stop: Austin, Texas. As a sizzling-hot lead singer, Slater Vaughn has no trouble raising heart rates—but his band’s been flat-lining for years. When Emmie, his bandmate’s sister, crashes with them in exchange for some free management, her industry know- how lands them a spot in the biggest music festival in Texas. But it isn’t just her business acumen that catches Slater’s attention. Emmie is sexy and warm, and—for the first time in his life—he wants more.
