SCHEDULED TO DIE is one of those suspense mystery novels
that will shock you
at the end. The second in the Carter Mays Mysteries
i>, the author Alan Cupp takes
the reader to many different levels of fear for the victim
of a psychopath who
gets his kicks out of torturing young, single, women. I
really enjoyed this
mystery, as it is one that is not too far off from what
reality could be in today's
world. That leaves this novel terrifying and suspenseful.
Carter Mays is approached one day by two women who are
seeking help
from a psychopath, Mike Sweeney, who has killed before and
is now giving one
of them, Dana Carrington a year to live her life to its
fullest before he comes
back to kill her. In some sick way he thinks he is giving
her a gift. When her
friend Erin talks her into hiring Carter, a private
investigator, for not only
protection but to help catch the guy, Dana agrees. This
madman only promised
to kill her sooner if she went to the police. Taking the
chance to talk to Carter at
a gym would be less suspicious than police headquarters.
Will Carter be able to
find out who this guy really is before it is too late?
This is a suspense you are not
going to want to miss.
The story is fast moving but the author also covers all
details of the main
character, Carter's case. Therefore you are never missing
any important
information. Alan Cupp also is great about including
scenes that give you
background insight on what type of police officer he use
to be and his
relationship with the guys still on the force. I love this
type of insight that helps
you understand the character all the more. It makes the
story real to the reader
when they can feel a deeper connection to the character.
Especially when it is a
series that will continue.
Carter Mays' newest client, Dana Carrington, has been given
a year to live. Her prognosis didn't'
come from a medical professional, but rather the handsome,
charming man she met while on a
business trip. After an evening with charismatic stranger,
Mike Sweeney, filled with potential and
intrigue, things quickly deteriorate into the most
frightening and traumatic experience of Dana's
life. Presented as an opportunity to be envied, Sweeney
instructs Dana to spend the next year
living life to the fullest, pursuing every extraordinary
opportunity she every dreamt about.
When
the year is up, Mike intends to reconvene for a romantic
evening that will end with Dana's death.
However, if Dana dares to contact law enforcement, her
impending death will come much quicker and
be far more brutal. Paralyzed by fear of the seemingly ever-
present Sweeney, Dana hires Carter to
protect her and stop her psychopathic suitor.
