The town of Blackfoot Falls features in this Made in
Montana series. Ben Wolf drives home - in a red
Porsche -
for the first time in years. He had major issues when he
left; his mother was a maid so he felt that others looked
down on him, while his father wasn't around. In ANYWHERE
WITH YOU, Ben heads to Sundance ranch to attend a wedding
- and gets pulled over for speeding by Deputy Hendrix, the
finest looking lady deputy he's seen. Too bad she's all
business.
Grace Hendrix, the deputy who has moved here to her
uncle's
hometown from Arizona, later enjoys the wedding, and the
other ladies fill her in about Ben - a stuntman who has
broken various bits of his anatomy on the job. He's not a
bad looker and he is clearly smart and dedicated, with a
career like his. But like most of the town, Grace thinks
he
is trouble.
I like the way the reader sees change through Ben's eyes.
A
pawn shop and dude ranch where once cattle thrived are
signs of the contracting economy. Ben's bright idea is to
find a ranch near LA where he can raise and train horses
for movie work and ads. As this tale is part of a series
we
meet familiar friends - Noah Calder, former sheriff, who
is
moving on to the marshal service, and various couples who
have found happiness. But the main tale follows Grace and
Ben so newcomers won't have difficulty finding their feet.
Ben does however need to resolve issues with his mother,
who is still a housekeeper. Where is his father?
There are well-written character studies and we find
politics even in the small town. The mayor smarms every
voter while deputies jockey to fill the sheriff's
position. There's talk around the bars, but I was pleased
that Grace is too professional to gossip about co-workers.
She is determined to do a thorough job - even against
poachers - but are her male colleagues going to be
supportive? As always in a Debbi Rawlins book the horses
are characters in their own right, but this time they take
a definite back seat to the adult romance. We want the
organised Grace and laid-back Ben to make new chances, but
both of them will need to adapt if they're to be together.
ANYWHERE WITH YOU is not a title that tells you a lot
about
the story, except that it's romantic, but this book is a
good summer read about strong, interesting people and
changing times.
Getting in bed with the law
There's a new deputy in Blackfoot Falls—and she just gave
stuntman Ben Wolf a speeding ticket! That wasn't exactly
the welcome-home Ben was hoping for. After fifteen years
away, he's not the angry troublemaker he used to be, even
if he was driving a little too fast. But if this is what
the law looks like now, he may be tempted to misbehave!
Deputy Grace Hendrix is not in the mood to be sweet-talked
by a sexy stranger. To become the next sheriff, she'll
have to outsmart her resentful coworkers…and stay out of
trouble. Unfortunately, "trouble" is over six feet of
mouthwatering, hard-bodied gorgeousness. It's only a
matter of time before this good cop indulges in a little
bad-boy diversion…
