"An urban fantasy/steampunk readers' delight!"

Fresh Fiction Review

The Undying Legion

Malcolm MacFarlane is hunting monsters when he discovers something much bigger than any remnant of the werewolves he previously encountered. A ritual sacrifice has Malcolm requesting the assistance of his fellow monster hunters, Kate Anstruther and Simon Archer. Will they be able to stop the diabolical plot in time to save London?

THE UNDYING LEGION is the second book in the Crown & Key series but can easily be read as a standalone. However, I can't imagine why anyone would want to miss out on a single moment of the fun! From werewolves to necromancers, THE UNDYING LEGION is an urban fantasy/steampunk readers' delight.

I love the characters in THE UNDYING LEGION! Clay and Susan Griffith have done a marvelous job at creating a cadre of monster hunters with their own unique voices. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Charlotte, our young werewolf, and the scenes between Charlotte and Malcolm are absolutely priceless.

THE UNDYING LEGION is yet another thrilling read from Clay and Susan Griffith. If you love fast paced steampunk and urban fantasy stories with surprising twists and turns, then THE UNDYING LEGION is right up your alley! Clay and Susan Griffith offer readers a smorgasbord of supernatural entities and the concluding teaser leaves me wanting the series finale, The Conquering Dark, right now.

SUMMARY

A thrilling new Victorian-era urban fantasy for fans of Kevin Hearne’s Iron Druid Chronicles, the Showtime series Penny Dreadful, and the Sherlock Holmes movies featuring Robert Downey, Jr.

With a flood of dark magic about to engulf Victorian London, can a handful of heroes vanquish a legion of the undead?

When monster-hunter Malcolm MacFarlane comes across the gruesome aftermath of a ritual murder in a London church, he enlists the help of magician-scribe Simon Archer and alchemist extraordinaire Kate Anstruther. Studying the macabre scene, they struggle to understand obscure clues in the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics carved into the victim’s heart—as well as bizarre mystical allusions to the romantic poetry of William Blake. One thing is clear: Some very potent black magic is at work.

But this human sacrifice is only the first in a series of ritualized slayings. Desperate to save lives while there is still time, Simon, Kate, and Malcolm—along with gadget geek Penny Carter and Charlotte, an adolescent werewolf—track down a necromancer who is reanimating the deceased. As the team battles an unrelenting army of undead, a powerful Egyptian mummy, and serpentine demons, the necromancer proves an elusive quarry. And when the true purpose of the ritual is revealed, the gifted allies must confront a destructive force that is positively apocalyptic.
