ALL OF ME is Book one in Jennifer Bernard's Love Between the Bases series. This is the first book that I've read by Jennifer Bernard, but after reading ALL OF ME I am eager to read the next in the series. ALL OF ME is full of the kind of wise-cracking, sexy swagger athletes you'd hope for in a book about baseball players. However, this is also a story about two people who have been hurt in the past and had to overcome obstacles before finding each other. ALL OF ME is heavy hitting when it comes to romance and intense drama.
Caleb Hart and Sadie Merritt have so much in common. They have both been burned badly in the past by people they should have been able to trust. The circumstances were wildly different but the feelings of shame and betrayal are very similar. They are also good people who are very loyal and understand the importance of family and the need for stability. I love that the story is told from both points of view so that the reader has a window into their souls and a better understanding of them. I like how, even though he has typical flaws, Caleb treats Sadie with gentleness and respect.
ALL OF ME differs from other sports-themed contemporary romances I've read because of the clear villains in the story. There are some very bad men in ALL OF ME who are determined to bring down Sadie and Caleb. I think this element of conflict adds drama to the story as well as help to define several of the characters. Some characters, like Donna and Mike, are immediately likable while others become more interesting as the story progresses. I love how all of Caleb's teammates pull together in the end when it counts the most.
ALL OF ME is a high octane love story with great characters. The hero and heroine make a perfect match and they are incredibly deserving of their happy ending. The romance is both extremely sexy and sweet at the same time. I look forward to future books in this "Love Between the Bases" series by Jennifer Bernard to see what might be in store for some of Caleb's teammates like Mike.
