On the run and keeping a low profile, Helen Hawthorne takes
one dead-end job after another so her past won't catch up
with her. Her latest endeavor is at an upscale bridal shop
where Helen meets Kiki, a demanding mother-of-the-bride
who'll do anything to upstage her mousey daughter.
At the wedding, Helen opens a closet at the church and out
tumbles a very dead Kiki. Helen's fingerprints are on the
murder weapon -- a bead-encrusted wedding dress -- and the
police see Helen as the prime suspect. Before the police
unearth her past, Helen must find the killer, but the
suspects are numerous. Had the daughter finally had enough
of the domineering mother? Or was it the ex-husband, whom
Kiki was driving into bankruptcy? Did the groom decide to
end Kiki's life as she was trying to destroy his career?
Helen finds Kiki promised her boy-toys money and then never
delivered.
Joining forces with Helen is her eccentric, loyal landlady,
who helps her uncover fascinating facts and guards her
back, as well as any 76-year-old can. Missing from Helen's
side is the new love of her life, Phil, since complications
from his past have arisen. Helen has her hands full dealing
with murder and her messy love life.
Fans of Sarah Strohmeyer and Janet Evanovich will love this
series. Snappy dialogue, and eccentric but endearing
characters heighten the mystery and fun as Viets neatly
ties the clues together.
Helen Hawthorne's new job at a bridal salon becomes
downright funereal when a bride-to-be's mother is murdered.
Now, Helen must find the killer before this turns into
another dead-end position for her -- literally.
