Romance Contemporary | Novella / Short Story

Army ranger, Aiden Marshall has finally returned home from Afghanistan, to the small town of Sweet, Texas. Not much has changed since he left over two years ago - friendly neighbours, his brother Ben, and Paige Walker the love of his life, are all there waiting for him. The only person who appears to be different is Aiden himself. Having lost his two best friends to the war and forced to leave behind his other best friend, Aiden is not the same man who left.

Tortured by what he has witnessed and suffering from survivor guilt, Aiden believes he does not deserve happiness, and is determined to push Paige away, so she can find someone who truly deserves her. But Paige is not so easily dissuaded. Paige believes that she and Aiden are destined to be together, and is willing to wait for him to adjust to his new life back at home, although she has some plans to nudge him along!

With community spirit, a woman who understands and loves him, and an incredible surprise, can Aiden find a way through the darkness to love and happiness?

HOME SWEET HOME by Candis Terry is a beautifully short tale of love in all of its forms. Believing he has failed his friends, Aiden is confused and lost about his future. Paige is a wonderful character who understands the man that she loves, inside and out. Caring, feisty and passionate, Paige is everything he needs, and I loved the fact that she doesn't pressure Aiden, but rather gives him the space that he needs, hoping he will come back to her.

HOME SWEET HOME by Candis Terry is a lovely romance that put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

SUMMARY

A shorter version of this story previously appeared in the For Love and Honor anthology

Before Candis Terry's wild Wilder brothers met their matches, a soldier gets a homecoming in Sweet, Texas

He's given up …

Army Ranger Lieutenant Aiden Marshall fought in some of the most hellish corners on earth and survived. Those closest to him, did not. When he returns home to Sweet, Texas, he believes he's broken and has lost everything—including his soul. The only fair thing he can do to the woman who's patiently waited for him to come home is tell her to move on with her life—without him.

… but she never will

Sassy waitress Paige Walker has no intention of walking away from the man of her dreams. He gave his all for his country and served with honor. Now it's time to pull him from the darkness and give him hope. With a heap of love, the help of the entire town, and a tail-wagging companion, Paige makes sure her hero knows there's no place like home sweet home.
