Hayden Dean appears to be an irresponsible party guy, and if he doesn't shape up, someone else will be named Alpha of his San Francisco pack. It had always seemed a given that Hayden would succeed his father, a born wolf shifter. Hayden is under a lot of pressure from the pack; his adoptive father died and since then, the pack is divided: Hayden is a turned wolf, and some wolves have gone rogue. Theoretically, Hayden is qualified, however he has never made any effort, because he is used to getting what he wants because of his considerable charm. But this time it won't work, some rogue wolves threaten everybody's safety, humans and shifters alike. And whether he likes it or not, simply being his father's son won't work this time for Hayden. He has to rebuild his image, unfortunately the person assigned to him is Melina Rae Rosenthal, whom he unceremoniously forgot to take to a premiere almost a year before. Melina has an agenda: she wants to work for Eclipse magazine and while it will not be a walk in the park, making Hayden look good could make Melina's dreams come true.
I expected a nice, comfortable shifter story, but THE WEREWOLF WEARS PRADA turns out to be a wonderful, totally unexpected treat! The author's world building is so meticulously crafted that everything seems entirely plausible: the paranormal is effortlessly woven with the human world, and even though I am a paranormal fan, I find it's seldom the case. The addition of a serious political angle also adds to the story arc.
Kristin Miller's writing is so smooth, effortless, and dynamic that I immediately fell under her spell. The characters are very well drawn and quite complex: Hayden is very seductive, wickedly delicious and he has also more depth than Melina gives him credit for at the beginning; it's quite interesting to witness Melina peel away the many layers of Hayden's double personality even without knowing what he is hiding. Hayden, is irremediably drawn to Melina; he realises she is his destined life mate, his Luminary, he fights his attraction because he knows the downsides and he refuses to go down that road. Melina is no mere fashionista, and she shows her true colours when she has to, in a very creative way.
In THE WEREWOLF WEARS PRADA there is also a lot of action, plot twists that took me completely by surprise, and meaningful little touches that add so much to the story. I just love THE WEREWOLF WEARS PRADA! Paranormal romance fans will be delighted!
Melina Rosenthal worships at the altar of all things
fashion. Her dream is to work for the crème de la crème
fashion magazine, Eclipse, and she'll do much anything to
get there. Even fixing up the image of a gorgeous, sexy
public figure who's all playboy, all the time. Even if
he's
the guy who broke her heart a year ago...
Even if Hayden Dean is a werewolf.
Since his father's death, Hayden's the heir apparent to
the
San Francisco Wolf Pack-well, once he settles down. Hayden
isn't interested in giving up his partying ways, except
he's
pretty sure he's found his fated mate, and the fact that
she's a non-shifter is bad news. Now he must find a
compromise between the traditions of his wolf world and
his
certainty that Melina is his...before fate (or another
werewolf) bites them both in the butt.
