Amy Morrison is left at the altar by her long-time
boyfriend because he doesn't love her anymore. Needing to
escape, the only place she can think of as her safe haven
is her office. Running into Dax Harris is the last thing
she wanted especially since they dislike each other. What
she least expects is Dax to step in and make her feel
better on the worst day of her life nor the attraction
she suddenly feels for him.
Dax may fight with Amy all the time, but he respects her
worth ethic and in spare time fantasizes her. Seeing her
vulnerable is something he does not like so to get her
back to normal, he does whatever he can without taking
advantage of her. This one act leads them to become
frenemies wih benefits. Fate also keeps throwing them
together for one reason or the other. The interactions
lead to mutual respect and liking since they can be
themselves without fear. They know there is no possible
chance they can ever fall in love... Or is there?
Honestly, SLEEPING WITH HER ENEMY, was a disappointment.
The premise is great but the execution was left wanting.
Throughout the story there were some discrepancies which
immediately pulled me out of the story. A few times I
actually went back to re-read to see if I had misread the
previous part. Nope. For example the first chapter in
Amy's POV shows her on the verge of tears praying no one
sees her in her less than perfect getup. I feel for her
here and understand why she would not want anyone to see
her at her lowest. However, when we jump to Dax's POV,
Amy is stable enough to put down Dax, show her disgust
for him and then 'laugh' while sashaying off to her
office. Next moment she is in her office crying her heart
out, loudly enough for Dax to hear her at the reception.
Either she is a very good actor or that just seemed
kind'a off.
On the other hand, there are some sweet and poignant
moments in SLEEPING WITH HER ENEMY. One thing which threw
me off was why were they enemies in the first place? From
how Ms. Holiday showed Dax to be, he is a gentleman who
is sensitive to others plight and tries to make things
better even if it is with someone who dislikes him. The
little things he does for her are sweet once given the
chance. The only thing negative he has is his hang-up
with relationships. The reason behind their dislike
sounds more like Amy pmsing with him as target. Amy is
rude one moment and vulnerable the next. One confused
lady. Her insecurities seem a bit forced when you compare
to her general outspoken nature and tom-boyish interests.
Overall SLEEPING WITH HER ENEMY is slightly clichéd turn
on enemies becoming lovers which had potential for
greatness but ended up not leaving a memorable stamp on
the mind.
Amy Morrison is supposed to be at her wedding. But when
her
husband-to-be jilts her at the altar, a distraught Amy
runs
to the only place she feels safe—her office. Besides,
everyone who works on her floor is at her wedding...except
him. Dax Harris. Playboy, executive, and Amy's
official office enemy.
While he and Amy don't see eye-to-eye on the best of days,
Dax can't help but feel badly when he sees Amy mid-
meltdown.
Next thing he knows, he's gotten her good and drunk, and
they're making out like two teenagers. And since
neither of them want anything serious, why shouldn't they
be
frenemies-with-benefits? Because there is no possible way
they could ever fall for each other...
