Romance Suspense | Romance Contemporary

Detective Alex Brody did not anticipate breaking in a new partner, much less a female partner and a Cavanaugh to boot. Alex lost his partner in an accident on their last case. Not that his partner was killed, just badly hurt, and his ex-partner's wife gave him an ultimatum . . . a desk job with the PD or no wife. He chose the desk job.

Chief of Detectives Brian Cavanaugh assigns Valri Cavanaugh to be Alex's new partner, temporarily, to work on Alex's latest case. The "King" of gaming and an excellent computer hacker, Hunter Rogers, was found murdered in his apartment. Valri possesses some mad computer skills, and the Chief wants her to find information on Rogers' smashed laptop. She also has some valuable experience as a gamer herself.

Alex is determined to get to the bottom of this case as soon as possible and send Valri on her way back to being a beat cop. She gets under his skin from the very beginning with her incessant chatter, but when she actually pulls valuable information off the smashed laptop, Brian begins to change his mind about this petite, curvy blonde in a blue uniform. Her information leads them to a second dead gamer and the case really heats up. Alex's life goes from simple to very complicated very fast. Can they find the person behind these killings before someone else dies? Can Alex keep telling his mind and heart that he does not want a relationship with Valri?

This is my second visit with Marie Ferrarella's Cavanaugh family. They are quite a fascinating group! You almost need a program to know who is kin to whom and who married into the family, yet each of Ms. Ferrarella's stories can stand on its own as a charming romance wrapped up in a great suspense story. All the Cavanaugh's are strong-willed, tenacious characters, and Valri is no exception. Her looks are very deceiving. The plot moves along at a good speed with a few surprises along the way. CAVANUGH FORTUNE is a story about relationships and a sense of belonging. Families can be a blessing or a curse. Alex has secrets about his family he has never told anyone.

SUMMARY

The Cavanaughs continue to thrill in this latest story of crime, feuding partners and - surprise seduction from USA TODAY bestselling author Marie Ferrarella

A ring of murderous hackers is casting a wide net of destruction, bringing down financial institutions and ruining lives. Detective Alex Brody must get to the bottom of the case immediately, but he needs help. Normally he'd rejoice at the idea of gaining a sexy new partner, but not this one - not a Cavanaugh.

Officer Valri Cavanaugh is pulled from the ranks to assist in a case that could make or break her career. She has the tech smarts, but her new partner thinks she's a privileged brat. As they delve deeper into the mystery, these unwitting partners find they have more in common than just a case—sizzling chemistry that is both startling - and potentially deadly.
