Jake is a SWAT team sniper. Jake so far has seventeen
kills. Jake is married to Jill who was an EMT until she
injured her leg and can longer perform her duties. They
both seem to have a very happy life. They do not keep
secrets from each other. Jill is the one who helps him
talk out the day's happenings after a kill.
Because Jill can no longer work as an EMT, she changes her
career and has become a
published author as well as teaching a writing class for a
college.
One of her students--Susan--has become a very good writer
and Jill is a little jealous. Jill's family does not like
the fact that Jake can't make it to a lot of family
affairs
as he is on call 24/7. They are always picking on Jake and
this just makes Jill hurt more.
The two authors Grant Jerkins and Jan Thomas write a story
that really has me thinking. One of the points that
they bring up in the story is whether you would feel
the same if the hostage was one of your family or close
friend. This really got me to thinking about what the SWAT
team has to go though. The other point in this story that
I also had a hard time really thinking about is are these
guys taking out criminals or are they just murderers.
What a compelling story. I can't imaging what goes though
these SWAT team's heads when they are called out. The
same goes for the service men and women that also have to
deal with similar situations. I would like to find out the
story after the end of DONE IN ONE. Did Jake give up his
career; is
his marriage still as strong as ever? Great read!
For SWAT sniper Jake Denton, the bullet casings he saves
as
grim reminders of his "kills" are beginning to add up. His
wife, his department-ordered psychiatrist, and even Jake
himself are all beginning to question just how these
sanctioned kills are affecting his mental health. Nobody
wants him to end up like Lee Staley, his mentor and
ex-partner---now out on permanent psych leave, drinking
himself to death, and the prime suspect in a series of
shootings that have paralyzed Northern California.
Jake doesn't believe that Staley’s guilty, but when their
job has taught them to kill, how easy would it be for his
friend to cross over to the other side? How easy would it
be
for him?
On every police force in the country, there's a SWAT
sniper
going about his daily life, acting like an average cop,
until the moment when the call comes in. Then they become
a
hostage’s last hope and a criminal's worst nightmare. To
some, they are silent heroes---to others, silent killers.
Done in One pulls back the curtain on their world.
