If Natalie Goodwin was a man you might say she was having a
mid-life crisis exhibited by her decision to put an end to a
stale marriage, start her own business and start taking
risks in her life. After 21 years of marriage Natalie wanted
and needed more out of marriage then her husband had to
give. But becoming a risk taker isn't something one does
easily or without some faulty starts. Having married at a
very young age, starting a family and being a stay at home
mother suit her at the beginning but as she approached her
mid forties she instinctively knew there was something more
out there and it was time she spread her wings. Supported by
a wonderful cast of characters -- namely family and neighbors
-- Natalie leaves normal behind and searches for exciting.
Firefighter Tony Cruz has his sights set on normal -- that is
settling down and having a family to care for. In his mid
thirties he is married to a divorced woman with a young
daughter, Parker, who he adores. But Tony is becoming more
and more aware that his wife is far from supportive and
loving and the only thing of value to save in his marriage
is his relationship with Parker. When Tony and Natalie meet
there is an instant attraction but problems abound and the
age difference seems to be the least of their worries.
This is a wonderful, engaging story involving realistic
characters with realistic challenges. Challenges that mature
characters face every day. What a delight sharing the
adventure of a forty-three year old mature woman and a very
sexy thirty-four year old firefighter. The reader wants to
shout -- go for it -- and at the same time understands
Natalie's reluctance. This is a hard book to put down so
dinner just might have to wait. Stef Ann Holm does a
remarkable job engaging the reader in a mesh of several
storylines with a couple of interesting twists. She gives a
life like description of the day to day demands of
firefighters demystifying their job and making it less
Hollywood. The budding relationship between Natalie and Tony
is luscious, definitely leaving you waiting for more. This
is my first read from Stef Ann Holm but it certainly won't
be my last.
With the ink dry on her divorce papers, Natalie Goodwin
feels that her life is running just the way she wants it.
Her new flower shop is set for its grand opening, and her
daughter is enjoying her first semester in college. The
house is clean, the bills are paid and cooking dinner every
night is now an option. Natalie admits she's just a teeny
bit lonely, but recent dating experiences have left her
convinced that Mr. Right does not live in Boise, Idaho.
But life has a big surprise for Natalie, and he lives right
across the street! Never in her wildest dreams did she think
she could fall for a man nine years her junior, but then she
has never met a man like firefighter Tony Cruz. Now the
sparks are flying, but will they light Natalie's fire... or
land her newfound independence in hot water?
