Max has only ever loved Lavinia and cannot understand what has happened to change his sweet innocent girl. As he begins to gain her trust and learn her secrets, as a reader, you can feel the depth of his love for her. The murder element of the plot added that extra spark of danger, and the tale flowed easily and naturally.
