One of my favorite Karen Robards book is SHIVER. It was a wonderful story centered on strong amazing characters. Vintage Robards is based on character development. It's what her fans depend on. So welcome to HUSH that captures your attention from page one and takes you on an adventure of sorts. HUSH has plenty of intrigue mixed with sassy dialog and sexy scenes. How can it lose.
The family of George Cowan is definitely the paying the price for being related to a man who became infamous because of a Ponzi scheme gone bust. George is now ensconced in jail and has claimed to have lost all the money. The family has already lost all but clothing and personal items taken to settle claims against Cowan's company. But there seem to be people -- perhaps lots of people -- who aren't convinced that the fortune is gone and they seem to be rather intent on finding it. Unfortunately for the Cowan family they have become targets and the first casualty is Cowan's son Jeff.
Finn Bradley has been watching the Cowan family. His government agency is extremely interested in getting their hands on the money. There is of course some doubt as to the existence of any money but each member of the Cowan family is under scrutiny until all doubts have been removed.
Jeff's sister Riley unfortunately finds her brother after being summoned by a text message to meet him at their now confiscated house. And here is where the adventure begins. Finn now has no choice but to follow the next person in the list of people culpable in the scheme, Riley Jeff's estranged wife. The Cowan family is not what Finn expected. They were basically living a rather Spartan life. Riley seemed to be the main bread winner. The wife and daughter and Riley have a close loving relationship. At first glance they are the innocents in this mess.
As Finn gets closer to Riley he begins to suspect that this family is keeping lots of secrets. As the investigation continues so does the danger to the remaining family members. Riley is in danger. Finn is determined to keep her safe although that may be the most difficult mission of his career.
HUSH gets better page after page as you are drawn into this utter nightmare. Danger is a constant. The enemies are numerous and almost impossible to identify. Knowing whom to trust is tantamount to survival and yet trust is definitely difficult to attain.
If you are looking for a great page turner -- look no further. Fans of Karen Robards will love HUSH. HUSH is fated to be a dog-eared book on your bookshelf.
