Chaos is erupting in the world as communication systems are fracturing and riots seem imminent. Marie-Archange SΓ©verine Gaucelin-Maculloch, known as Goose, is a Canadian Mountie in a remote outpost. She's far away from the craziness in the cities but other events are drawing her deeper into a mystery that may tie into what is going on nationally. Who is Jennifer Knox and how did she manage to escape a locked cell? Meanwhile, Gawain's whereabouts are still unknown and Marina is venturing outside of Pendurra for the first time.
ANARCHY is the second book in the Advent Trilogy and knowledge of the events of the first book is crucial to understanding ANARCHY. The story is broken up into parts that follow the various characters. The first part introduces us to new characters that eventually tie into the other part of the storyline, although it is not readily apparent at first.
ANARCHY is the sort of story that builds slowly, as James Treadwell creates a surreal atmosphere in which talking to people long dead or missing seems believable. I enjoy reading the parts pertaining to Goose as she brings a sense of reality to a storyline that is deeply rooted in mysticism. I'm not sure I'll continue with the series, however, as the story plods along at times and sometimes it is a bit difficult to ascertain exactly who a person is speaking to at that moment.
However, I have to commend James Treadwell for the eerie ambiance he builds around Goose's story as it still sends chills down my spine when I envision the scenes such as the sudden fog or the empty vessel they find. Readers who like stories that build gradually with an emphasis on the overall atmosphere may appreciate ANARCHY.

If thereβs one thing Gavin Stokes knows, itβs that

make the same strange claim: magic has returned. All signs
point to it.
Now, Gavinβs aunt has disappeared. A young girl whoβs been
accused of murder vanishes from a locked cell. She is at
large somewhere in a vast wilderness. Meanwhile, a
desolate child leaves the home that has kept her safe all
her life and strikes out into the unknown. And a mother,
half mad with grief for her lost son, sets off to find
him.
There is a place where all their journeys meet. But
someone is watching the roadsβ¦
