Romance | Romance Paranormal

When you get to book seventeen in a series (in this case, the Otherworld series) you might expect a bit of staleness, but Yasmine Galenorn is too skillful a writer to allow that to happen to one of her beloved worlds. Part of what keeps the series fresh is the cyclic main characters. Each book is written from the viewpoint of one of the three D'Artigo sisters, in turn. In the case of PANTHER PROWLING, we are viewing events from the point of view of Delilah, cat/panther shifter and Death Maiden of the Autumn Lord. Add in a possessed sword, the reappearance of Merlin and plenty of action and you have another satisfying entry in the series.

As always, I most enjoyed the glimpses into family life for the characters around which the series is centered. Little Maggie the baby gargoyle might be my favorite but there are plenty from which to choose.

In her letter to the reader, Galenorn admits to having an end in sight for this series, but it will not be coming in the next book. She is also branching out with two brand new series in 2015, which means the next Otherworld book (Darkness Raging) won't be published until around Winter/Spring, 2016. Never mind, I am looking forward to the intriguing new series next year.

Although it is possible to read PANTHER PROWLING as your first foray into the Otherworld series, it is much more enjoyable to read the series in order, in my opinion. Galenorn does provide plenty of information to help you out without getting in the way of the main thrust of the book, as well as a glossary to keep the players in order but there is nothing like reading the series in it's intended, layered form to truly appreciate Yasmine Galenorn's gift for storytelling.

SUMMARY

We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Camille is a wicked-good witch with three gorgeous husbands. Menolly is a vampire married to a werepuma. And me? I’m Delilah, a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. While the war in Otherworld is expanding, so is my newly renamed PI business. And my next case is about to make life very interesting… While waiting for Shadow Wing’s next move, I decide to revamp my ragtag PI agency into the Cat’s Eye Investigations firm. My first client turns out to be our cousin Daniel. During the grand reopening for the Wayfarer, he shows up while being chased by a rampaging ghost. Daniel has procured a rare and valuable sword, and a ring of ghostly warriors comes attached to it. Protectors of the soul trapped within it, the spirits are out to stop anybody who threatens the weapon. As my sisters and I unravel the history of the sword, we quickly realize that the entity locked within the blade is a dangerous king from times gone by—and he’s about to break free and try to recover his crown…
