Jubilee's Journey is book two in the Wyattsville series.
Jubilee and Paul have to leave their childhood home since both their mother and their father have died. No one is allowed to live in the house unless they work in the mines. Since Paul promised his father he would NEVER work in the mines, he and Jubilee are leaving the town in search of their Aunt Anita who they don't even know. They arrive in Wyattsville and get seperated. Ethan Allen finds Jubilee sitting on a bench looking very scared and he can't help himself. He tries to get her to leave the bench. He finally gets her to go and meet his grandma Olivia. Since Ethan Allen and Grandma Olivia know a thing or two about lost children, they quickly become attached to the irresistible little girl, while helping her search for her brother. She really just wants to go back to the bench and wait for her big brother.
Paul told Jubilee to wait on the bench while he went inside the grocery store to check out a job. Hours later, he still hadn't returned and that's when Ethan came into the picture. I felt such heart break for Jubilee. She depends on her older brother, trusts him to take care of them, and now he is just gone. Jubilee is such a sweet girl. She is so innocent yet so firm in her love for her brother. Paul is such a mature young man, and such a good brother to Jubilee. When he entered that store, he had no idea his path would come together with Hurt McAdams and he would find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and wouldn't be leaving the way he went in. Ethan and Jubilee become very close with Ethan filling the role of big brother and protector until her real brother returns.
Reading JUBILEE'S JOURNEY is like going home. I fell in love with the people of Wyattsville in the first book, Spare Change. Ethan Allen will win your heart over in the very first pages and now he has a new friend, Jubilee. The way he looks after her is so heart warming and you can't help but smile. Your heart will ache for all these kids have to go through when all they really want is for someone to care for them and love them.
JUBILEE'S JOURNEY is a refreshingly sweet story that will keep you flipping the pages when you should be doing other things but you can't because you just have to know what happens next. I am looking forward to the upcoming third book in the series, Passing Through Perfect and I am sad to learn that the third one is slated to be the last. The character Ethan Allen has warmed my heart and it will be difficult to let him go. Bette Lee Crosby is a New Jersey girl just like me but you wouldn't know it by the way she writes. You would swear she was Southern born and bred and that is the sign of a very fantastic author.
