Young Adult Science Fiction
What if your soul didn't die but was instead reborn in the
body of someone else? And what if your past soul had
committed a crime considered so heinous you were locked
away... for your own protection?
Alina Chase has been trapped on an island for the last
seventeen years, constantly under the watch of an
ever-changing parade of guards. Her soul once belonged to
the notorious criminal, June Calahan, who committed the
unforgiveable sin of hacking into the database that tracks
the souls and then destroying lives in her wake. Alina
merely wants a chance to be free. Will her three rescuers
help her find freedom or trap her in a prison of a different
kind?
SOULPRINT is an intellectual thriller, based around
technology and the concept of reincarnation. Megan Miranda
does a great job at making the science behind SOULPRINT and
the database sound quite believable. The mystery builds
slowly as the pieces begin falling into place and I love the
finale as it is fits the characters and the storyline so
aptly.
Alina is an intriguing heroine and I couldn't help but hope
and cheer for her! Would she be predestined to follow the
same actions of June or can she change fate this time
around? I love Alina's quest to be her own person rather
than just the shadow of June as it adds a very human element
to a story centered around technology.
SOULPRINT is a fascinating science fiction romance that
explores the concept of whether one's personality and
actions are predestined. I haven't read any prior books by
Megan Miranda but will definitely have to try some of her
other books soon. Young adult readers looking for an
innovative and creative approach to reincarnation will enjoy
SOULPRINT.
SUMMARY
Seventeen-year-old Alina Chase has spent her entire life
imprisoned on a secluded island—not for a crime she
committed in this lifetime, but one done by her past self.
Her very soul is like a fingerprint, carried from one life
to the next—and Alina is sick of being guilty. Aided by three teens with their own ulterior motives, Alina
manages to escape. Although she’s not sure she can trust any
of them, she soon finds herself drawn to Cameron, the most
enigmatic and alluring of the trio. But when she uncovers
clues from her past life, secrets begin to unravel and Alina
must figure out whether she’s more than the soul she
inherited, or if she’s fated to repeat history. This stunning “new world” romance from acclaimed author
Megan Miranda will leave readers wondering how far they
would go to escape the past.
