Though the United States of America are but two-hundred-
and-some years old, every inch of her soil is covered
with the spectral energy of the dearly departed. Through
the ages, from long before our founding fathers to the
present day, those who make their mark on the world after
death are a constant presence. Theresa Argie, "Haunted
Housewife" investigator, and Eric Olsen, journalist, take
the reader through ten of America's most haunted
locations. Take a tour with them through the Queen Mary,
the most haunted ship still afloat today, as they explain
the phenomena of hearing crying babies in an empty room.
Join them as they explore reformatories and asylums
seeking paranormal activity. Decide for yourself whether
or not you are a believer in AMERICA'S MOST HAUNTED: THE
SECRETS OF FAMOUS PARANORMAL PLACES.
You don't have to believe in haunts to love a good ghost
story, but it certainly doesn't hurt. As a lifelong
believer myself, I don't have any blocks on my ability to
believe these stories as true. For those more skeptical
readers, there is no shortage of fascinating information
nevertheless. Argie and Olsen provide not only historical
background on each location, but personal stories of
their investigative experiences and interviews from other
visitors to the locations. There is a veritable
wellspring of fascination in this book. I couldn't put it
down, myself. As far as nonfiction ghost books go, there
is often either too much historical or too much personal
information. This book does not lack any balance, which
is a real achievement.
AMERICA'S MOST HAUNTED is also very well-written. Coming
from such sources, this is not surprising, but it is
refreshing all the same. There is no wandering chapter;
there are specific sections scattered cleverly throughout
each haunted area. The authors include definitions
throughout the chapters so the uninitiated or the very
confused can follow the terminology. The end of the
chapter contains contact information for tours if any is
available.
I haven't found a paranormal nonfiction book that I've
liked as much as this one. AMERICA'S MOST HAUNTED is
wonderful. It is a very respectful treatment of some of
America's ghostliest places from sea to shining sea. For
the true ghost story enthusiast, this book is a must. I
know I will be arranging a tour of Lemp Mansion in St.
Louis, Missouri based on the wonderful tales in that
chapter. Check this out; the spirits tell me you will not
regret it.
