It is 1721 and Charity Goswick finds herself in serious trouble in New York. She has fled her despicable uncle and the evil man he is trying to force her to wed, Captain Shevington. Disoriented and confused, Charity finds herself stowing away on an empty ship until she can figure out her next move. But one thing is certain she will never trust any man, as she believes they will use and abuse her.
James Lamont is looking for his brother David, who has disappeared. Determined to find him, he is forced to become a navigator for a band of pirates, who have information on David's fate. While searching the ship for some sign of his brother, James stumbles upon Charity. Hiding her in his cabin for her own safety, he tries to protect her.
As Charity begins to trust James, and her own feelings when he kisses her, she is discovered. But when the Captain of the ship claims her for his own, and James is dragged off by the pirates, the ship is attacked. Will James and Charity escape their fate and find each other again? Or will their lack of trust in love, separate them forever?
TEMPTING THE PIRATE by Tamara Hughes is a romantic tale full of adventure on the high seas. James is my favourite character with his devil may care attitude, and his love and protection of Charity. Charity irritated me slightly with her naivete and lack of appreciation for James help, but towards the end of the story she becomes a stronger character. TEMPTING THE PIRATE by Tamara Hughes is a short enjoyable read.
