As the team owner's daughter Maggie Jameson grew up in the New York Saints stadium. The team is her extended family and the fans adopted her "Saint Maggie", the teams unofficial mascot. Baseball has been in her blood and she has been shaped and molded her entire life for baseball. Having attended college in Chicago to earn her degree and the skills needed to take over the team when her father was ready to step down. That was until she was blindsided when her Dad decided to sell the team to Alex Winters and his friends.
Alex Winters, and his two best friends, Mal & Lucas, love and lived baseball in college. All three were excellent players, but things changed in a instant when a bomb exploded during a game. The three friends reacted on instinct and dove into the wreckage to save lives. But their heroic acts have come at a price...no longer able to play the game they all love.
When Alex wanted to buy his beloved struggling team, the Saints, Mal & Lucas were there to back him up and help out if needed. He wants to revive the team and keep them in New York. He hopes with Maggie's support, he will be able to make the ownership transition smooth for everyone involved.
As the sparks fly between Alex and Maggie, Maggie's anger turns to passion and their attraction heats up. When Maggie finally gives into the temptation that is Alex, a former disgruntled employee also puts in a bid for the team out of spite. Now his pending ownership and relationship with Maggie is being threatened.
When the second bidder for the team offers Maggie her dream of running the team, it is only then that Maggie realizes that her own desires do not mean anything if it will not benefit the team and its players.
THE DEVIL IN DENIM is a great start to the New York Saints series. Melanie Scott has created a great cast of characters that has introduced the reader to a side of sports romance that many haven't been exposed to, the management aspect of it. Melanie Scott easily portrayed in her writing the close knit community which consists of the team and their wives are with Maggie. Melanie Scott is a new author for me and I am looking forward to the next book in the series, Angel in Armani.
