MORE LAST MINUTE KNITTED GIFTS

Non-Fiction

MORE LAST MINUTE KNITTED GIFTS is the second book of this type written by Joelle Hoverson. Hoverson is the owner of a beautifully appointed knitting shop that truly centers on colors. This book also focuses on the use of colors to make simple projects pop. Since this book is about making gifts quickly it makes sense that the range of gift items are from very simple which fit into the first chapter "less than 2 hour gifts." From there Hoverson moves on to slightly more demanding projects.

Needless to say the time frame certainly depends on the expertise of the knitter. But if you consider that the length of the written instruction is short and sweet -- then the amount of time needed to complete should be short as well.

MORE LAST MINUTE KNITTED GIFTS follows Hoverson's book Last Minute Knitted Gifts which was published in 2004. MLMKG was published in 2010 but all her designs in each book are still very current.

Some of items require very little material as well -- in fact many of them could be easily fashioned using yarn already in your stash. All knitters have a yarn stash. So this might be a way to actually accomplish two things -- reduce an overabundance of leftover yarns and create fast gift items for people on your gift list. Of course if you have lots of free time you can make more elaborate things but then again if you do then you probably would not be attracted by the title of this craft book.

MORE LAST MINUTE KNITTED GIFTS is a nice addition to a craft library. I loved the first edition of this book so I readily grabbed the second book to review. Several items in each book can be found on ravelry so that you can see them made in interesting yarn color combinations. Instead of purchasing the patterns separately you can acquire them in one nice book.

SUMMARY

When STC Craft published Joelle Hoverson's Last-Minute Knitted Gifts in 2004, the response was overwhelming and today there are nearly 100,000 copies of this classic in print. Six years later, Hoverson is full of fresh, new ideas for beautiful gifts. So STC proudly presents More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts: an elegant collection of 30 projects organized according to the time it takes to complete them, from less than two hours to more than eight. Among the projects featured are sachets, bracelets, ornaments, mittens, gloves, hats, sweaters, baby blankets, and throws. Understanding that knitters today love to personalize their projects but also need guidance along the way, Hoverson showcases many of the projects in several colors and yarn weights, and with optional embellishments and creative ideas for gift-wrapping.
