After the video of Hamlet mimicking Darla's moves during a martial arts competition goes viral, Darla and Hamlet are invited to a cat show in Miami.
Taking her best friend with her, they all set off to have a great time. Since Jake's mother lives in Fort Lauderdale, Jake will act as security during the show and then visit with her mother for a few days.
With animal activists picketing the show, there are a lot of things going on all at once. Just before the show where Darla and Hamlet are due to perform, Hamlet is kidnapped. Jake is discovered unconscious. Even after shutting the convention center down, they don't find Hamlet right away.
When Hamlet is discovered in the room of a dead man, Jake and Darla will become part of the investigation despite a lot of reluctance from the local detectives.
There are many cat mysteries available, but Ms. Brandon has done a good job writing a unique series. Hamlet communicates with Darla by knocking books off the shelves her store. It is up to Darla to interpret his clues with the help of her staff and Jake. Each time, Darla finds herself in some danger and Hamlet is smug as he helps solve the murder.
This series is thoroughly enjoyable with some fun characters. I look forward to each new book.
