Daisy and Brenda own a bakery called Sweetie Pie in a
small
backwoods town.
They are extremely shocked when one day while baking
Brenda
is confronted by three men seeking to steal of all things
ninety
pounds of cream cheese. As she grabs a knife to defend
herself one of them falls into her and is killed. Daisy is
determined to find out why anyone would steal something so
crazy from her or anyone it just makes no sense.
Being a small town most of the people grew up together
Bobby who was at the bakery at the time of the crime,
Daisy, Brenda, Beluha and Bobby's brother Rick all become
wrapped up in the case in one way or another. As a series
of strange crimes finally leads to a great discovery and
shocking betrayals.
Carolyn Miller has a great story with A NIP OF MURDER.
This
is a fun mystery that has a great group of people. Rick is
a moonshiner who is always trying to get Daisy to go out
with him. She doesn't really have a problem with his
moonshine, heck it's the best in the state, but she has
known him all his life and his philandering ways don't
appeal to her. He reminds her way to much of someone she
once married.
A NIP OF MURDER has mystery, intrigue, good people and a
great setting. With A NIP OF MURDER Carolyn Miller has
created a book with a good balance that is a quick and
enjoyable read.
As Daisy McGovern knows all too well, it isn’t easy being a young, small town waitress at the local diner. And it becomes even harder just as she’s trying to stitch her life back together and salvage her job by converting the diner into a bakery when a mysterious robbery occurs and one of the thieves ends up dead on the bakery floor with a chef’s knife in his chest. Forced into a twisted game of cat-and-mouse that takes her from secretive nip joints overflowing with moonshine to weathered Appalachian mountaintops overflowing with history and guns, Daisy must figure out who the dead man is—and why he was in her bakery—before she becomes the next victim. This is the second entry in a charming series filled with eccentric characters, red herrings, and, of course, moonshine!
