Determined to be the opposite of her flighty, French mother in every way possible, Mikhaila Voyanovski Durand has built herself a steady, safe life for herself. Working as a professor in a University, and dating Landon, a cardiologist with a scheduled plan for their future, Mikhaila, or Miki, as she is known to her friends, is coasting along with no bumps in the road. Very secure. Very bored.
Travelling to Russia for her two week holiday with her father, Miki's life is turned inside out, when her father suddenly dies, and her uncle Alexei, needs her to step in as head of Voyanovski Industries, an extremely wealthy company. Miki struggles with the loss of her father, with whom she was not close. Determined to do him proud, she vows to sort out his last business deal and then head home to her real life. That's what she plans to do - and then she meets Jerome Michel de Villiers, or Rome, to his friends - the business associate she must hammer out this deal with.
Miki is instantly attracted to his self-assured, sexy voice over the phone, and is floored when she meets the playboy in person. Rome feels the same chemistry whenever he is near Miki. Embarking on a no-strings attached fling, Miki plans to have some fun before she leaves Russia forever. But what started out as simple attraction turns to something far more potent and Miki, afraid of the depth of her feelings, runs from Rome and what he is offering her.
Accepting that she cannot go back to her boring teaching job, and her bland relationship with Landon, she embraces being in charge of her father's company. And entertains the possibility that a relationship with a playboy may actually succeed. But what will Miki do when she learns that Rome is engaged, and is forced to spend time with him and his fiancรฉe on her visit to France? With many misunderstandings, smoldering kisses, and misconceptions, will Miki and Rome be able to find their happy ever after together?
ROULETTE by Megan Mulry is an entertaining, sexy read that I enjoyed from start to finish. Miki is so afraid of being flighty and spontaneous, that she has settled for a mundane life that bores her. It was really enjoyable to watch her come out of her shell, and take control of her own destiny. Rome is known as a ruggedly handsome, arrogant playboy, who does not take his personal life seriously, but underneath that facade he is so much more - a true, generous and loyal friend, as well as someone who can love deeply when he knows it's right. The secondary characters in the novel, such as Margot and Alexei, really add to the storyline, and give us an insight into Miki and Rome's characters.
ROULETTE by Megan Mulry is a beautiful novel full of pent up passion, misjudgements and self- discovery set against the magnificent backdrop of St. Petersburg and Provence. This is the first book I have read by Megan Mulry, and I will definitely be reading her other novels.
