In UNFORGETTABLE Joan Johnston is continuing the saga of
two families -- one of which has been in her repertoire for
several books. As I can count at least twenty Johnston
books on my bookshelf I consider myself a longtime fan of
this very prolific author. Johnston\'s cowboy and Texan
books share a special place in my heart with characters
that live on long after the story is over. Joan Johnston
has once again favored us with some very memorable
characters in UNFORGETTABLE which features the Benedict
and Blackthorne families. The Benedicts are relatively new
to me but they are fated to become good friends.
Someone is calling for a ransom to be paid for a priceless
family heirloom that according to most everyone seems to
be safely ensconced in a hotel safe. Would wonders never
cease?
Bull Benedict is no one\'s fool and except for one
regrettable instance he does not admit to making mistakes.
So when Bull gets that message he is immediately on alert
to something going on and is certain it involves at least
two of his children.
Bull and his wife Bella have been estranged for the last
ten years. There\'s no denying they are still hopelessly
in love with each other but life and egos have definitely
got in the way of this amazing couple. Their problems
have filtered down to their four sons and daughter who
have at the moment scattered to the ends of the world.
Each one looking for purpose in their lives and candidly
at a loss for what they had considered the warm loving
family that centered on Bull and Bella.
Lydia Benedict is in the forefront of the missing necklace
since it was last in her possession. Actually around her
neck but someone had drugged her and stolen that priceless
item. In a panic but resourceful Lydia calls upon her
mother\'s investigator to help her find that necklace. In
walks Joe Warren -- actually he is barely walking since it
took quite a bit of liquor to get him on that plane to
take the place of his sister who actually was the reigning
investigator. Quite a story about how that came to be.
While Lydia and Joe are searching for the thief they find
they have to rely on each other. Neither is very happy
about that. Joe is still reeling from his breakup with
the woman he thought loved him. Lydia stubbornly looking
for a love not money or status match. Lydia and Joe make
up the oddest couple and yet they fit.
Neither is really looking for a relationship. They have a
mission and are beginning to realize their investigation
is going to have some additional players.
Family you can\'t live with them and you can\'t escape them.
The Benedict\'s present a united front when there are
problems. Bella and Bull are joining forces to help
their daughter and in doing so open the door to perhaps
reconciling their own differences along the way.
Wouldn\'t that be a bonus?
Joan Johnston provides just enough suspense in this
jewelry heist to keep you turning those pages. But what
you will find even more entertaining in UNFORGETTABLE is
the heartwarming escapades of this wonderful family. The
history of the Benedicts and Blackthornes is rich and
rewarding. UNFORGETTABLE is the second book of the
Benedicts Brothers series and is on the track to
garner Johnston many more fans.
Haunted by war wounds and the woman who left him, Ex-Delta Army Sergeant Joe Warren is a man scarred body and soul. His life as he knew it is over, and he has no idea where to go from here. When his sister begs him to rescue a young woman in trouble, Joe reluctantly agrees to help—and comes face-to-face with the most beautiful—willful, stubborn, and sexy—woman he’s ever met. Lady Lydia Benedict yearns for a life of passion and adventure, one where she’s appreciated for her brains as well as her beauty. But she panics when she awakens—still dressed in her ball gown—and discovers that the priceless pearl necklace she’d worn to a charity ball the night before is missing. To make matters worse, Lydia never got permission from her mother to borrow the necklace, and it’s her brother, who trusted her with the irreplaceable pearl, who’ll be punished if it isn’t found. Joe is Lydia’s only hope, but the hard-hearted soldier and the British aristocrat find themselves at odds as time runs out. Can Joe allow himself to trust another woman? Can Lydia fall in love with a man who’s nothing like the sophisticated gentlemen she’s known all her life? Can people from two such different worlds find a way into each other’s arms—and fulfill each other’s deepest desires?
