A SECRET TO DIE FOR is the eighth and final book in the
>Secret McQueen series. Sierra Dean has been on my
radar
for a while now, based on recommendations from some book
blog friends with similar tastes. When I finally picked
up
the first in the series, I wanted to yell at my
friends, "Why did you not tell me to drop everything and
read this series immediately?!" Because the books are
really THAT good. This is a kickass Urban Fantasy series
with a grouchy smart-mouthed assassin who is half vampire,
half werewolf. She's impulsive and immature, getting
herself into hot water again and again, in her quests to
punish the bad guys and protect her friends and lovers.
Despite her faults, I love Secret. Sadly, this is the
final book in the series, but it's been quite an amazing
adventure with Secret McQueen and company.
Readers will benefit from knowing the complex backstory
from the previous seven books and two novellas, which are
an absolute pleasure to read. Book seven, Cold Hard
Secret, wrapped up most of the previous story threads, and
I was very curious to see where Secret would go next,
knowing that book eight would be the finale. Secret, her
vampire consort Holden, her werewolf lover Desmond, and
her
sister return to New York City after Secret kills her
mother, who was an insane murderer bent on taking over as
Queen over Secret's dead body. The group is shocked to
find New York City burning and virtually deserted, with
roving bands of animated undead lurching through the
abandoned streets.
Not even the supernaturals can believe what creatures
they're chasing this time! Secret must round up a team of
vampire wardens to help her usual team suss out the
villain
masterminding this horrific plot, while trying to keep her
loved ones safe. I was thrilled with A SECRET TO DIE FOR,
which
brings back old enemies and friends, and provides many
shocking twists and unexpected turns. Dean writes with
wonderful snarky humor, entertaining pop references, and
knuckle biting action alternating with high tension. Be
forewarned, this is a book that will make you laugh out
loud when reading! The action was fast, the repartee
sparklingly witty, and the blood and anguish very real.
A SECRET TO DIE FOR grabbed me and drew me through the
action with my
heart in my mouth, and I'm so glad I went along for the
fantastic ride!
No one is safe. Secret McQueen, Book 8 Secret McQueen thought she’d seen it all, but that was before she, Desmond and Holden came home to find New York City burning and the streets overwhelmed with the walking dead. Now, in a race against time, she must find out who is responsible for unleashing hell on Earth. For that, she’s going to need a whole new team of vampire wardens to help round up the perpetrators, who turn out to be a gang that makes Sons of Anarchy look like toddlers on tricycles. Her quest across the city brings old friends and enemies out of the woodwork and reminds Secret once and for all why mercy and forgiveness are not always prudent. Lives will be lost, sacrifices will be made, and when the dust settles, nothing will ever be the same again. With no time to mourn her losses, the only question remaining is if Secret can survive long enough to stop the apocalypse…or if this is the one challenge that will finally drown her in rivers of undead blood. Warning: The final book in the Secret McQueen series has it all: hot kisses, unexpected guests, and enough tear- jerking moments to require a whole box of tissues. You’ve been warned.
