Romance Suspense

Amy Robinson comes home to Lagniappe, Louisiana to recuperate from a broken ankle she sustained doing her job as a smokejumper in Idaho. She discovers that her step- father has been released from prison and is back home with her mom. Amy decides Louisiana is not the place for her. As she takes the only thing she has left of her father's, a model 64½ Ford Mustang, and heads down the road, Amy breaks down, only to be rescued by Grant Mansfield, on his way home to relieve the babysitter of his two daughters. Grant lost his wife a year ago in a drug war bombing. His passion is tinkering with old cars, and he offers to fix Amy's car just for parts. Grant also offers the extra bedroom in his home for as long as it takes him to fix her car. Amy is reluctant, but Grant's children help to seal the deal.

Amy has no maternal instincts, but offers to help Grant with some babysitting since his current sitter is in transition to a new job. All is going well, until Grant's oldest daughter, Peyton, throws a fit and goes out to her playhouse. When it's time to eat, Peyton can't be found. The phone call that comes shortly thereafter reveals that she has been kidnapped? Can Grant make good on what the kidnapper wants or can they find Peyton before it's too late?

Beth Cornelison gives us a delightful story in her latest book in her Mansfield series, THE MANSFIELD RESCUE. Amy and Grant are strong characters who have experienced brutal hurts in their lives. Both question our current court system and wonder if it is out of step with justice, as their lives are being impacted by it. This is a story about not letting your past define who you are or your future. It's about there being a difference between being content with life and really being happy. Will Grant let guilt rule his life, or can he find love again? The action moves along quickly, filled with drama and suspense, and keeps the reader engaged from beginning to end.
