Someone is murdering members of a Wiccan coven around Indianapolis, Indiana. Not only are these women being murdered, but they are also being horribly tortured before their deaths. Worst of all, the murderer is someone who is killing them in order to "save their souls."
When the first body is found, Detective Chennelle Kendall and Detective Erica Barnes are handed the unenviable task of finding this killer before any more of these women are murdered. There is no shortage of suspects, either, with the largest pool of them coming from the Avenging Angels Evangelical Church. The members there seem to be quite radical in their beliefs and have staged more than one protest regarding the Wiccans. They have also contacted the police department on a regular basis in order to shut down the coven.
While it is clear that these murders are related to religion, it will not be easy to stop this lunatic who is killing in the name of God.
PURGED is almost a genre defying book as it encompasses so many topics at once. There is the murderer, of course, along with the coven members and the church members. In addition, there are several fascinating side plots going on. M. E. May has done her research regarding Wicca. This research has culminated in an astounding accuracy of portraying that religion. She has also created quite the little church with its devout and, possibly, fanatical members. Ms. May has nailed both of them!
Her portrayal of the murderer is crafted with genius as she infuses horror, abuse, madness, and fanaticism to create the instrument of death that takes the women in order to purge them of their sins before dispatching them to God. She pulls no punches with her murder scenes. Readers of PURGED will experience the terror right along with the victims as they beg and plead for their lives.
PURGED is not a one-sided book, however. Both Wicca and Christianity are given equal time. Each are treated fairly in that all people should have the right to worship as they choose. This comes down to right and wrong; good and evil; but in a most realistic manner.
A page turner in all aspects of the term, PURGED is one of those books that you will not be able to put down until it is finished. Once finished, the story will stay in your mind for quite a while after that final sentence is read. You may want to read it during the daylight hours, but if you can't; be sure to lock all of your doors and windows before beginning that first chapter. A few lights on won't hurt, either. However, you choose to read it, PURGED is a book not to be missed!
Indianapolis Homicide Detective, Chennelle Kendall, faces
the greatest challenge of her career when an avenging angel
decides to force members of a Wiccan coven to confess their
sins by torturing and murdering them. The killer believes
them to be a group of devil worshippers and uses this belief
to justify his acts of cruelty.
Chennelle and her partner, Detective Erica Barnes, discover
a church whose members have been opposing this group of
Wiccans for several months. Soon the detectives have a large
pool of suspects, but no evidence to back up their
suspicions. Meanwhile, the avenging angel continues to claim
more victims.
Chennelle finds herself struggling to maintain her
objectivity and respect for all parties involved and their
rights to worship as they see fit. When she discovers the
long help secrets of the angelβs origin, will it help
Chennelle stop this killer before he strikes again, or will
this recent revelation give him the opportunity to purge the
sins of his past?
