Maggie Marclay is living in L.A. with a roomy she can't stand. Mags is an artist and has a website, Collage A Week. Breaking off with her unfaithful boyfriend, Jason, Mags is searching for her soul mate. She and her brother, Cooper, were brought up without their father, leaving them both insecure, and Mags believing in the family "Newman Curse". Her normal paying job is as a graphic designer at Bridalville, an online humor mag start-up.
Her best friend Coco coerces her into making a video for a creative dating site. This is the start of Mags journey into finding herself when she answers an ad to purchase a used camera on Craigslist. The ad "You want my camera? Careful, destiny included" captures her attention. Purchasing the video camera brings with it instructions for a treasure hunt to "find" her destiny and one true soul mate.
Using her own ingenuity and friend's abilities, Mags is taken from one end of L.A. to the other, from one statue to another, from one food trailer to another, all in the attempt to follow her "destiny" and perhaps, herself. Along the way she finds clues and helpful hints on websites to guide her and meets the most interesting people along the way. Searching for the dog with the spotted tongue is her obsession in finding that "one true man" that can change her life.
This is a most unusual way to read a book when written as a click lit with multiple sources along the journey as references. Taking this jaunt along life with the funny but desperate young woman is a trip you won't likely forget. It's amazing what can happen if we believe in our destiny or are even willing to take that leap of faith.
Hillary Carlip has built an amazing tale out of the loneliness and confusion of a young woman to bring the reader an amazing insight into finding the "one" for this girl. FIND ME I'M YOURS is certainly a different approach to the books I have read and reviewed previously, but definitely a most interesting concept.
