As my first ever Lori Wilde book, I had no idea what to expect going in. I was hoping for some charm, some cute and romantic moments and something that would get me into the holiday spirit. What I got instead was all this and so much more!
CHRISTMAS AT TWILIGHT is the fifth book in the Twilight, Texas series. Delta Force Operate "Hutch" Hutchinson has experienced a whole lot of loss on his latest assignment. After losing his entire team, a finger, and his voice, Hutch is honourably discharged. Suffering from PTSD and unable to talk, he returns to his home in Twilight to find that someone other than his sister and his niece are living there.
Meredith is on the run, hiding from the dark secrets of her past. She takes on the alias of Jane to stay under the radar while she tries to keep afloat through the holidays with her son. In this sweet but also heartfelt story of healing, Lori Wilde really impressed me with the balance of emotional and serious problems and the lighter side that readers often expect in a small-town Contemporary Romance.
I was blown away by the level of detail and exploration of the personality disorders and PTSD in this novel. It's difficult to get it right, but Wilde manages it flawlessly. Previous characters in the series make several appearances throughout the novel, making me want to go back and read them all now!
I found the tight knit group that Wilde has created in this series to be very fascinating. Readers will no doubt connect with the characters and come to adore them as you get to know them more and more.
CHRISTMAS AT TWILIGHT captures the holiday vibe while also tugging on the reader's heartstrings with its emotionally uplifting message.
