Stitching Snow

Science Fiction

Cage fighter and techno genius Essie is hiding one big secret; she's really the missing Princess Snow. After running away from her dangerous father and murderess stepmother, she has remained in hiding for years. When a young man, Dane, tricks her and kidnaps her to use as leverage to get his prisoner father freed, Essie is enraged. As they journey back to her dangerous home, they will realize their end goal is the same, and they will need each other to pull it off.

STITICHING SNOW is an adventurous Snow White retelling by R.C. Lewis. Taking some of the basic elements of the original fairy tale, Lewis opens the story with something I can't read enough of: a literally kick-butt princess. In order to support herself financially throughout the years, Essie has taken to fighting for bet money and fixing up her new planet's low grade technology. The combination of physical and mental strength she has is delightful, and it makes her a strong and edgy main character.

Essie's personality makes her developing romance with Dane exciting and refreshing. She does not trust easily, and she doesn't quite know how to depend on someone else. Both of their characters face tough realities, and they grow with them remarkably. Though there were some plot elements that I thought were a bit overdone, I never got tired of reading the scenes where they slowly start to open their minds up to the other.

Overall, I love this different and engaging spin on Snow White. STITICHING SNOW is a good choice for those who like their fairytale retellings with an extra kick like Marissa Meyer's series or Stacey Jay's OF BEAST AND BEAUTY. R.C. Lewis shows excellent writing in this work, and I am eager to read more from her!

SUMMARY

Princess Snow is missing.

Her home planet is filled with violence and corruption at the hands of King Matthias and his wife as they attempt to punish her captors. The king will stop at nothing to get his beloved daughter back-but that's assuming she wants to return at all.

Essie has grown used to being cold. Temperatures on the planet Thanda are always sub-zero, and she fills her days with coding and repairs for the seven loyal drones that run the local mines.

When a mysterious young man named Dane crash-lands near her home, Essie agrees to help the pilot repair his ship. But soon she realizes that Dane's arrival was far from accidental, and she's pulled into the heart of a war she's risked everything to avoid.

In her enthralling debut, R.C. Lewis weaves the tale of a princess on the run from painful secrets . . . and a poisonous queen. With the galaxy's future-and her own-in jeopardy, Essie must choose who to trust in a fiery fight for survival.
