DEAD, UNDEAD, OR SOMEWHERE IN BETWEEN is book one in the
Rhiannon's Law series, revised, expanded, and
rereleased
from its original 2011 publication as an ebook now. I
have
been a huge Rhiannon fan from the start, so I am excited
for this series reboot. Updated books two and three will
be re-
released shortly, and the author is working on book four,
currently slated to be released in 2015. This is a
fantastic urban fantasy with a snarky, kick butt heroine
with a lot of attitude. The writing is snappy and the
pace
fast. Rhiannon has a large number of personal rules, or
laws, that are scattered throughout this book and the
others, which are a real hoot.
Rhiannon's Law #16: "If it looks like a rabbit, and it
hops
like a rabbit, run the other way and fast. That shit is
liable to tear your arm off, Monty Python and the Holy
Grail style."
Rhiannon Murphy is a bartender at a strip club, who
happens
to be able to see dead people. When she accidentally
reveals that capability to the local vampires, they decide
to use her necromancer talents to help investigate the
mysterious disappearances and deaths of some of the New
York vampiric population. Rhiannon just wants to be left
alone, but when her attempts to get out of helping them
are
unsuccessful, she ends up working with another necromancer
as well as some of the vampires. Her smart mouth gets her
in hot water with the supernatural beings frequently, both
her allies as well as her enemies.
"Listen." I sighed and reached for my water. "I want to
get
this shit over and done. Can we strive to obtain that
goal?
I have a meaningless existence, and I can't put that kind
of action on hold indefinitely."
Gabriel, known to Rhiannon as Disco, is the head of one of
the oldest vampire families in the city. When one of his
own vampires is among those missing, he is frantic to
discover who is behind the nefarious plot. Disco strong-
arms Rhiannon into joining his investigation, and soon
Rhiannon is forced to become even closer to Gabriel and
his
family. The tension- physical, mental, and sexual-
between
Disco and Rhiannon is positively incandescent.
There are
so many things to love in DEAD, UNDEAD, OR SOMEWHERE IN
BETWEEN- the snarkiness, the
compelling paranormal world, and the amazing bedroom
scenes. I found the mystery to be well done, keeping me
guessing until the very end. And the astonishing
cliffhanger ending leaves the reader gasping in anxiety
for
the next book in the series. A major two thumbs up for
this book!
One bad corpse can ruin your whole day.
Rhiannon’s Law, Book 1
After leaving the flash and sass of Miami for the
no-nonsense groove of New York, Rhiannon Murphy is eager
for
a clean slate and fresh start. A bartender by trade, a
loud
mouth by choice, and a necromancer by chance, she’s
managed
to keep her nasty habit of seeing dead people hidden from
those around her—until now.
The dangerous and deliciously sexy vampire, Disco, knows
her
secret. When he strolls into her club to ask for help
investigating the mysterious disappearances of his kind,
she
quickly gets the vibe that he’s not exactly the kind of
guy
you tell no.
Yet in a world where vampires peddle their blood as the
latest and greatest drug of choice, it’s only a matter of
time before the next big thing hits the market. Someone is
killing vampires to steal their hearts and, unlike
Rhiannon,
this isn’t their first stroll around the undead block.
