Romance Historical

Katherine Bone's DUKE BY DAY ROGUE BY NIGHT is a fast-pace novel which takes place on the high seas and in the ballrooms of London. The adventure begins as Constance Danbury is on a ship headed towards Spain to visit her aunt and ask her for money to cover her father's financial mismanagement. The ship is attacked by pirates and she is held captive by a pirate named Thomas Sexton. Our hero, Thomas Sexton is not a pirate. His name is Percival Avery and he is working undercover for Lord Simon Danbury, Constance's uncle, to determine who was responsible for attacking the merchant fleet and to discover who killed his sister. Constance and Thomas act on their mutual attraction and she falls for the dashing, one eyed pirate. Thomas never reveals his identity to her on board the ship. DUKE BY DAY ROGUE BY NIGHT contains several wonderful secondary characters: Jacko, Ollie, Jeffers and Lieutenant Gulfalt. Each one contributes to the storyline. Ms. Bone does a superb job creating the evil Lord Montgomery Burton. This many- faceted villain is well- written and very, very evil. Burton is involved in almost every piece of the storyline. He was determined to marry Constance and would do anything to make sure she became his wife. Katherine Bone has written a story filled with romance, adventure and mystery. Ms. Bone's descriptive writing style draws the reader into the story. The reader wants Constance to marry for love. Thomas aka Percy has sacrificed so much to avenge his sister 's death. Will he figure out who killed her and why? I think it's important to point out that DUKE BY DAY ROGUE BY NIGHT is the Katherine Bone's first novel. A few of the situations in the book are over the top and whimsical in nature and might not be for every reader. The last few chapters of the book are intense and exciting as the all of the pieces of the mystery come to light

SUMMARY

Constance Danbury is desperate to escape an arranged marriage to a man nearly twice her age. Her only hope is to board a merchantman bound for Spain to enlist her aunt's help. Her plans go awry when she’s captured by pirates. Even more alarming, her traitorous body longs for the man who’s returning her to England! Pushed into a marriage of convenience, she’s caught between two men—one owns her heart, the other is bent on stealing it. Percival Avery is a member of Nelson's Tea, an elite group assigned to protect England's shores at any cost. On a mission to avenge his sister’s death, Percy infiltrates the gang of cutthroats responsible. When his vessel attacks a merchantman, Percy must choose between vengeance and saving the life of his commander's niece. His only choice is to mutiny, but mutiny obliterates his well-laid plans. Forced on a new course that leads straight back to Constance Danbury, Percy has to make a decision—chase revenge or allow himself to love again.
