Laney Scott is a university student in Jacksonville, and she hasn't dated since high school. She still misses that special boy, her first and only love: Lachlan. He came from Australia and had lived in Florida in his teens. Laney and Lachlan had been in love for 2 years, but something happened, she broke his heart, and upon finishing high school, he went back home Down Under. In spite of her broken heart and loveless life, she's the one who gives her friends relationship advice, and it works.
One of her friends, Bethany, has a huge crush on Aiden Sims; she slept with him but he doesn't even remember her. So Laney's roommate Heather devises a plan to crush Aiden's ego. Meanwhile at university, Laney and her friend Jacks got into trouble for disrupting a class, and they will have to attend the YMCA Cook-off as penance.
Aiden's cousin Lucy is getting married, and he asks Laney to be his date at the wedding dress rehearsal, she accepts reluctantly, but it's part of the plan to humiliate him, break him, and make him pay for what he did to Bethany as well as to countless other girls. It turns out that a friend of the groom-to-be is Lachlan! Lucas tells Lachlan about the YMCA Cook-off; the Aussie is a very good cook, he's also jobless, and he just might be good enough to win the Cook- off and get a chance to work in a fine restaurant.
The dress rehearsal is a complete and utter disaster when Laney sees Lachlan and flees the premises, trying to escape through a bathroom window but failing miserably, and being rescued by ... Lachlan! It's because of him, and because of what happened between them that she has not dated since; she broke his heart, but she has never stopped loving him.
WHERE YOU ARE is a story of the pain, the joy, and the consequences of misguided decisions. It's told from alternate points of views, those of Lachlan and Laney; and the author tone is youthful and casual. And be prepared for a shock; there was a plot twist I never expected! I have to admit though that my favourite character is a secondary one: Jacks; he's a nice guy, he sounds genuine; he's a good friend. WHERE YOU ARE is the first instalment of a new series, TOGETHER, and I hope we get to hear Jacks' story.

Cold coffee. Is there anything worse?
Staring down into my owl coffee mug, the cool brown liquid gawks up at me
in mock humor. The cord is lying on the counter beside the pot, not
plugged into the wall where it was last night. Instead, Heatherβsβmy
looks-obsessed roommateβstraightener is plugged in. Whatβs the point of
having a timed coffeepot if itβs unplugged every morning before you get a
chance to use it? I grit my teeth and blow my bangs from my forehead.
I snatch the cord from the plug-in and toss the straightener on her bed.
Hopefully, sheβll get the point. Instead of pouring the coffee down our
sink, I sip on it. Hell shall freeze over before I go a morning without my
coffee. Hell frozen-over would probably be hotter than my coffee right
now. I grab my backpack, tie my blond hair into a messy bun, push up my
thick, black-rim hipster glasses, and walk out of our dorm room.
I lock the door and head toward class, the aroma of perfumes swarming my
nose. A few girls in towels race down the hall, screaming. Like clockwork,
a tall muscular guy follows behind them, a huge Iβm-going-to-get-some grin
on his face. College is definitely a guyβs wet dream come true.
Especially, in a co-ed dorm. Heβll have one of them pressed against their
dorm room door tonight. Theyβre all so predictable.
Donβt get me wrong, itβs perfectly fine to date. But, doing it wisely is a
completely different issue. Girls arenβt the smartest when it comes to
dating. The three Cβs that guys canβt stand are clinginess, crying, and
clumsiness. I know itβs not possible to walk like a runway model twenty-
four seven. And we all know girls tend to cry, especially around that time
of the month. But itβs all about the game. Youβve got to play it right, so
you can snag a great guy. Itβs so easy to rope one in as long as you
focus, and I donβt mean on his abs.
