"Dark conspiracy thriller featuring a secret of the Knights Templar"

Fresh Fiction Review

The Babylon Rite

Fiction

In Peru, Jess Silverton is researching the mysterious culture of the Moche. She suspects them of being far more bloodthirsty than other archaeologists and anthropologists believe based upon their artwork. Near Edinburgh, Adam Blackwood is working on his last assignment for a newspaper at Rosslyn Chapel when a famous Knights Templar historian makes some cryptic statements to him and then commits suicide. Meanwhile, in London, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Ibsen has been assigned a gruesome case involving an unusual death that has all the ear markings of a cult killing. What secret links all of these events?

THE BABYLON RITE delves into a dark conspiracy that spans across several different countries. Tom Knox shows us how the lives of Jess, Adam, and Ibsen link together in a horrifying conclusion. Some of the details are quite gory although not unnecessarily so as we see once the secrets are unveiled.

THE BABYLON RITE is a fast paced adventure that immediately hooks the reader in and doesn't let go until the last page. The story alternates chapters between the characters and I had to resist skipping ahead to see what would happen next. Tom Knox ramps up the tension as the story progresses to its stunning and somewhat disturbing conclusion. Readers who like their Knights Templar conspiracy theories dark and fast paced will relish THE BABYLON RITE.

SUMMARY

What terrible secret has driven the world’s foremost historian of the Knights Templar to kill himself? Journalist Adam Blackwood has just been handed the story of a lifetime: something is hidden in the famous Knights Templar chapel of Rosslyn that could unlock the greatest mystery of the medieval Templars—until the one man who could decipher the final clue commits a grotesque suicide. Adam sets out to learn why. In Peru, anthropologist Jess Silverton is researching the remnants of the Moche, a bloodthirsty, sexually voracious, lost Stone Age civilization. Amid the toxic turmoil of local gangs and corrupt politicians, her dogged pursuit for answers will lead Jess to cross paths with Adam as they unearth the ancient secret that enthralled the conquistadors, horrified the Church, and is threatening to reemerge—with catastrophic consequences.
