LICK is Book one in Kylie Scott's Stage Dive series.
The
book opens with Evelyn Thomas waking up and finding herself
married to a hot famous musician after a drunken night in
Vegas. For me, the main focus of LICK is both the evolving
of a new and fragile romantic relationship between two very
different people, and also how that acts as a catalyst for
those two people to grow as individuals. Of course in
addition to the drama and high emotional impact, LICK is a
very hot book full of sexy scenes.
There are many obstacles to Evelyn and David making their
marriage work and finding happiness. One such obstacle is
Evelyn's inability to remember the previous evening. I like
how Kylie Scott treats that aspect of the story because it
helps to show David's vulnerability. It's very moving when
David describes how he basically fell in love at first
sight with Evelyn - or "Ev" as he calls her - and she can't
share those fond memories he has with him. There's a very
heartbreaking quality to that circumstance and I like
seeing David's vulnerability. He comes off as being more
than just a shallow rock star. Both characters appear
sympathetic and you can't help rooting for them to make
things work and stay together.
There are some uncomfortable moments near the beginning
when David's entourage creates an almost claustrophobic
feeling for Ev. For me, the story really takes off when the
two get away to his place in Monterey. That's when they
really get to know each other. I love the intimacy between
them -- not just sexual intimacy -- but a sense that they
are
the only two people in the world and they are in their own
cocoon of love. LICK really pulled me in as I was reading
it and made me feel emotionally invested in the outcome.
Even the supporting characters, like David's bandmates,
added to the richness of the story.
LICK is an emotional powerhouse that pulls you in, with
some fun and a whole lot of sexy thrown in. I can't wait to
read future books in this series!
Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like
this.
Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her
twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she
sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a
hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive
half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her
finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could
just remember how it all happened.
One thing is
certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars
on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.
