BREAKING DANGER is nothing new to Jon Ryan, a Ghost Ops
member, but the scene beneath his helo is something out of
a horror movie. A virus had been released and is turning
everyday humans into killing machines. Pockets of survivors
are being found, but at this time he is only thinking of
one person. A scientist with the virus isolated and a
vaccine in her possession is in his sights. He has to get
to her and get her to their stronghold...Haven.
Sophie Daniels is in her apartment in San Francisco, having
escaped from Arka Pharmaceuticals...the very place that
caused the monsters. Having lost contact with her friend
Elle Connolly, whom she had warned to run when she realized
the danger they were in, she's now alone. The last thing
Elle had said was Jon is coming and he would get Sophie to
safety. Sophie holds on to that hope, but seeing the swarms
of inhumanity outside her window, she cannot imagine how
anyone can get to her in time.
Neither of them has any way of knowing that the moment they
set eyes on each other their hearts would follow. It doesn't
take long for them to realize that the need they feel is
mutual and irresistible. It is now so much more important
for them to get to safety without getting infected, because
they just might have a future together.
BREAKING DANGER will have you on the edge of your seat from
the first word. Be warned this book is more disturbing
than the previous offerings in author Lisa Marie
Rice's Ghost Ops trilogy. What can you expect when a
virus takes out most of California, turning everyday people
into inhuman monsters? I've liked Jon since the beginning of
the series and am glad to see that Sophie, who was also
mentioned in an earlier book, is also safe. They make the
perfect couple for one another, feeding on each other's
strengths and boosting the weaknesses. There are so many
secrets that come out as this couple struggle to survive,
things neither of them had ever told anyone, though
Sophie's comes late in the book and is almost the end of
her.
I wish Ghost Ops could have been longer, because I
love watching these men who were betrayed by their superiors
and their country make their own world and have other
"misfits" find their way to Haven. The epilogue in BREAKING
DANGER is the perfect touch readers will need as we face the
end of this too short series. After the horror, it is a nice
touch to add some lightheartedness to the ending, especially
for Mac. (You will have to read the book to find out.) The
Ghost Ops series has gone into my read again pile and
I look forward to trying more offerings from Lisa Marie
Rice.
They are the Ghost Ops: a covert squad of super-elite
soldiers. After their team was betrayed and massacred, only
three members survived. Going underground, they built Haven,
a community of misfits and geniuses. And now everything has
come down to one final battle and only one man and one woman
can stop the world from burning.
Beautiful, brilliant Dr. Sophie Daniels is trapped in her
home with the only antidote to the plague that has turned
people into violent monsters. Former Ghost Ops elite
operative Jon Ryan is sent on a suicide rescue mission,
brutally fighting his way to her side. Together they must
cross treacherous terrain before they can return to Haven,
but for them to succeed Sophie must trust this tormented
soul and place her life, and her heart, in his hands.
Years of combat training have prepared Jon for this
moment—he is unafraid, and nothing is too dangerous now that
he's found Sophie. He will risk everything, fight anyone,
for her and a future filled with hope and love.
