Josslyn has been widowed for three years. She has grieved the loss of her husband Carson, but she has come to the point where she feels that she needs to move on. On the anniversary of her husband's death, she visits his grave with his best friend and business partner, Dash. But this is the last year she will visit his grave.
She is lonely and makes the decision to explore a side of herself that has been missing, even when married to her husband. She has fantasized about finding a man to dominate her. She seeks what she is looking for at an exclusive club that caters to people indulging in their most hedonistic fantasies. She never thought that the one man she has leaned on these past three years would be there, Her husband's best friend, Dash.
Dash has lived in what seemed like an impossible position for years. He is in love with his best friend's wife. Unwilling to act on that attraction, knowing he would never betray his best friend, he has waited in the wings, offering Josslyn unconditional support and comfort as she works past the grief of losing her husband. When he finds her in a club devoted to the darker edges of desire, he is furious because he believes she doesn't know what it is that she is getting into.
It's when she explains exactly what she wants and needs in detail that has him reeling. He realizes that he has been given his chance to claim the one thing in his life that he has wanted the most, but can he keep Josslyn once he has her submission, her trust, and her love.
I really enjoyed LETTING GO. As the first book in Maya Bank's Surrender Trilogy this is a great start to the series. The romance quickly progresses and the entire storyline has a nice flow to it. The characters are great as well. Josslyn is a strong character who knows what she wants, who is honest and pulls no punches. She was so in love with Carson, even when he could not give her the one thing she wanted, needed most... dominance. The chemistry between Josslyn and Dash is good too. Their attraction is immediate, which leaves to no shortage of steamy bedroom romance.
This book also has a peek into the second book, which is Giving In, I can not wait to see how Maya Banks writes the story of Kylie and Jensen.
